Do people get quoted anymore? I mean in a profound sense.

For example there are many quotes heard by Martin Luther King or John F Kennedy. However, it doesn't seem as if anybody is saying anything memorable or that has enough punch to make us think nowadays.

I think that great oration has been lost to the sound bite. Sure there are the occasonal campaign trail speeches with their ready to wear CNN quotes, but the world is a very different as compared to the 60's when Kennedy and King uttered phrases that ring true today as they did then. Education has changed as well. Does anyone memorize poems and great speeches anymore. How weird am I that I would occasionally fall asleep as a teenager reciting the Gettyburg address in my head. (and no whichever wiseguy would make the comment, I wasn't reciting it to keep myself from coming as I jacked off. I used mathematics for that. Try coming when you are figuring out what 64 squared is.)

PK-

They said a version of the same thing during the heyday of Kennedy and King; to wit, television is changing every thing and we will never hear in person great orators again, etc. 40 years from now I predict they will be saying another version of the same thing. Those guys in the EARLY 21st century thought every thing was really happening fast and they had a lot of knowledge at their finger tips but look at what we have today, those silly people.

I think it all depends on where education goes. I think that someone who has read widely is more likely to use quotes than someone who mostly watches TV or listens to the radio to get his information. The Internet is a toss-up, since it depends how you use it. U-tube won't give you much education but is vastly entertaining for those who look for that sort of thing.
