In a seperate contest, Shad won the Best Butt Contest.

Thanks Sparky for the Stock Idol results. Btw, what does the contest involve? and are there any prizes? Congrats to the winners! I always liked Shad's butt and Fred's chainsaw. :+

I guess we'll have to wait another year for Stock Icon Eddie to make it into the finals. However, according to Taz, Eddie will be at the next Buffboyzz party in NYC. He'll certainly be a winner there.

Puzzled~~~How can Eddie go to Florida if he cannot travel to NYC? Last I heard a passport wasn't absolutely essential--but still being discussed. Are requirements different by air, land??? I always travel to Montreal by road and I've a had passport for decades, but know that some "frequent" crossers still use birth certificates + valid driver's licenses.

passport vs. Canada

I understand that at a date in the near future, a passport will be required for Canada/US crossings.

I have a passport myself, so I paid little attention at the time. This is turning into an issue for the Stock dancers.

RE: passport vs. Canada

It should not be an issue for any Canadians yet (it has not been for me), but I'm keeping an eye on it should anything change. However, I think it is a PERCEIVED problem. I have heard many people around here say things like "I'm going to Florida in March - I have to get my passport renewed". For some reason people think the new rule is already in place.

From http://travel.state.gov/travel/cbpmc/cbpmc_2223.html :

The Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004 requires that by January 1, 2008, travelers to and from the Caribbean, Bermuda, Panama, Mexico and Canada have a passport or other secure, accepted document to enter or re-enter the United States. In order to facilitate the implementation of this requirement, the Administration is proposing to complete it in phases following a proposed timeline, which will be published in the Federal Register in the near future.

RE: passport vs. Canada

As I understand it now, the US authorities are looking at some other form of documentation that could substitute for a passport, which costs about $100 or so to obtain. There are millions of one day visits across the Canada-US border each year made by people of both nationalities who do not have passports. Only 25% of Americans have a passport and about 40% of Canadians. If a paasport were required, these visits would stop and billions of dollars in economic activity cease. The US Administration is aware of this , as are the governors of the border states and Florida and Arizona, where many snowbirds reside each winter.

Up to now, people travelling by car to these destinations have been able to use their birth certificates and a drivers licence at the border. What the Administration is now looking at is some sort of identification card that would be issued to people not having passports and presumably at a much reduced cost to enable these visits to continue after 2007. The question is what sort of background checks would be required to get such an identity card. I know of several dancers who do not go to the US because of previous criminal convictions which would bar them from entry.

RE: passport vs. Canada

I forgot to mention that the proposed identity cards would probably have some form of biometrics which would be scanned at the border crossings, similar to what is being used already by some air travellers.

I too am "puzzled" by the comment that Eddie can travel to Fl but not NY.

Perhaps someone in MTL can correctly inform Eddie of L'Stock that a passport is not necessary to enter the USA. That all he needs is a drivers license and birth certificate. I thought this was common knowledge.

On the other hand, maybe there is another reason why he can't travel to NY. Too bad, for someone mentioned he was supposed to be at the next buffboyzz party which is scheduled for 12/18.

Eddy is working on getting his passport to make his travel to the US easier and smoother... he doesn't have it yet but wants to make sure he has it in time to go to FL next month.

LustinGuy, Are you aware of any Canadian citizens (or in this case dancers) having problems crossing the US/Canadian border with just a driver's license and birth certificate? How is having a passport going to make travel here "easier and smoother"? I have freinds who travel to Canada using just a birth certificate and drivers's license and they've had no additional problems... I not sure what you mean by "easier and smoother"... Glad to hear that Eddie will be in Fl. What beach is he going to? :-)

RE: No passport necessary

Eddie problem wassss, he didnt have his birth certificate, and no he doesnt have a drivers licence. NO official papers....

As for Fla VS NY, he wants to go to the warm climate and work the clubs in Fla for a while during the slow season in Canada ans school break. He has a "special freind" who is going to be helping him out.

He now has his birth certificate and will be getting his

passport..phewwwwwwwwwwww Maybe one of us wants to buy him a car now ahhhh?

FYI: There is a customs program that scans your eye (eye ??) in Canada that eliminates the customs wait. Maybe Lustinguy can explain, its pretty simple to register, some forms and a small fee, but i think its worth not explaining how you love the casino and not waiting on the long lines.

When I visited Montreal just a few months ago in mid-September, I was told at customs that as of January 1, a passport would be required to enter Canada....Is this true or have the dates changed???

RE: No passport necessary

Hello All, Yours truly had trouble getting accross the Boarder To MTL, They asked me why I was going and I went on too say that I ws going for the food and the sights they then asked if I had any gifts for anyone which I of course said yes too, They asked me who my friend was and I proceeded to mention him by first name only, I then had to give them his phone number where they proceeded to call him. Unfortly at that time he was not available, and I was keep there for two hours

.I even gave them the phone number of my hotel and told them that they could call there to check if I had a reservation, but the agent

decided to keep me there . I got into MTL at 9.30 but by the time I got to cross the boder it was 11. 15 pm,Anyway its good to watch what you say if you have a gift its best not to wrap it and if they ask if you have friends there its best too say no unless you want to be held up for a bit. On another Note I had a great time in MTL I spent most of my time at Campus , and then of course a lot of time back at my hotel room with a special someone ( my favorite guy ) OH and COOPER

ALEX from Montreal will be in NYC on DeC 15 and would love to Dance at The Buff Boyzz Party .

Gee, are you really surprised you had problems at the border? If you tell the agent you're bringing in a gift you should at least know the person's last name :o

CASINO CASINO CASINO

If you use the reason for travel that your visiting the Casino they seem to let you slide through.

Customs may ask if you have more than $10k, if you answer no they might ask why your not going to AC or Vegas.

The old excuse that US money is still worth more in Canada still seems to work well.

Lets hope the feds dont read our message center.

Jay, thanks for sharing your border story with us. It's most helpful to know the kind of answers that could send up red flags... In all the times I've traveled to MTL, I've never been asked if I were bringing someone a gift. I guess that's a new one for the books.

As for Alex coming to town this week, please give him the contact info for the B'boyzz. If Icon Eddie, Eddie, Eddie, can't make it, Alex would be an excellent substitute.

RE: No passport necessary

I have heard that some people have had trouble crossing the border using a birth certificate. Since each state or even county issues different ones and it is easier to forge/alter them and the border agents may take more time to scrutinize them. Having a passport just makes the while process fool proof. And yes, the regulations are moving toward requiring passports. As we can see from Rendie's link - a passport is the recomended form of proof of citizenship.

I'm not saying you can't do it with a birth certificate but who wants to risk additional border hassles when its so easy to get a passport?

I picked up my CANPASS on Friday in Montreal, you have to complete an application in advance which takes 4-6 weeks to process, pay a CAD$50 fee and then appear in person within 3 months after approval to have your iris scanned and picture taken. This allows you to bypass the immigration agents, avoid being asked the purpose of your trip, and avoid a line that is sometimes over an hour long. The pass is good for 5 years if you pay the renewal fee annually. Here's the info: http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/travel/canpass/canpassair-e.html

RE: No passport necessary

In the past 5 years, I have probably driven into and out of Canada, both into Quebec Prov. and Ontario Prov. more than 35 times. Almost always going into Quebec, I am asked if I have any gifts for anyone; how long I shall be staying; where I am staying; the purpose of the visit. I usually stay at the same hotel, carry no wrapped gifts, and say the purpose of the trip is "tourism." Rarely have any follow-up questions followed. Going through Niagara Falls-Buffalo into Ontario Prov. is a much longer wait and sometimes a more thorough questioning. Fortunately for me, my purpose in going to Ontario Prov. is to visit relatives and friends, and several times I have gone through just before Christmas and have had gifts wrapped and in plain sight. When asked the value, I tell the truth---they are usually worth less than $300. I have been stopped and thoroughly searched only once going to Ontario---and that was NOT at Christmas time. Not sure why I was selected, but I suspect it was random, based on some sort of quota.

I have a Nexus Pass---which is what the CanPass is called when you apply for it and get it in the US. The process is not too difficult, but you have to be present for an interview with both US and Canadian Customs officials before it is granted. AND having the pass does not guarantee that you will not be stopped and questioned and searched--so far, going into Quebec, I have not been stopped at all---just waved through. However, coming back into the US, I have ALWAYS been stopped, questioned, and my passport has been requested. The car has never been searched. My biggest complaint with Nexus/CanPass is that I cannot use the NY-Quebec Pass anywhere but at Champlain. To use Nexus/CanPass in going to Ontario, I have to apply for a different one. When I first applied, they told me that within a "short" period of time, ONE pass would be sufficient. So far that has not happened. I'm still hopeful. During the summer, and on busy weekends, it is great not to have to wait on line coming back into the US!!! I recommend appling, if you have a background that can stand up to the scrutiny. The officials will warn you when you receive the pass, that if you violate ANY of the rules/regulations, the pass will be revoked, and I suspect your name will be entered into their computers for future reference. Obviously the issuing of the pass is based on "trust" and reliability and integrity.
