Time for a little levity around here. Jumbo Shrimp is one oxymoron that quickly comes to mind for many people. Down Escalator, Small Miracle, Terribly Cute, and Pretty Ugly are some of my personal favorites/annoyances. Yours?

"Open 24 hour" businesses that have locks on their doors. ok, that's sorta an oxymoron, in a very loose definition of the word. ;) Gabe in St. Louis

Or "homemade" food prepared and served at a restaurant.

I stumbled upon the Web site of a restaurant advertising "Excellent English Cuisine". It's a matter of personal taste, but after visiting England several times, I find this one by far the most hilarious of all.

Re: open 24 hours. Your mention reminded me that when I was growing up in Hartford, Maxwell Drugs was open 24 hours. For some reason they needed to close and couldn't find the key. They had to call in a locksmith.

My oxymoron for this thread is, Civil War

And for a little word play, just to spice things up, here are a few words spelled backwards. Obviously, whoever created english had a strange sense of humor.

live - evil

lived - devil

And the not so amusing,

not - ton

now - won

star - rats

stop - pots

pot - top

And so on.

Cheers! Ritchie
