I understand the need to use a form of moderation. I know that there will always be posts that do not conform to the standard set by the Message Center owner. This is common with many web-based forums.

My question is, how many posts per day do not get released due to unacceptable content?

Cheers! Ritchie

The number is so tiny, it can't be quantified. On the rare occasions a post is questionable, we discuss it in the moderator's forum, and virtually always leave it for HooBoy to decide. Probably %99.999 of posts get released as soon as one of us reads it. (Just a guesstimate, based on experience). :)

As my very sweet and cute cute (but recovering) colleague, bbkk, says ... the number of rejected posts is almost uncountable.

One per month is probably over-stating it during periods of normal operation. But there are periods of non-normal operation, sadly.

There are periods where HooBoy asks us to leave posts from specific posters in the queue until he's personally seen and released them. It's simply the easiest way for him to keep a handle on individual posters instead of chasing all over the board to find out what's being said.

There have even been times when one moderator objects to a message but another sees no rule violation and releases it.

I *can* tell you I've deleted a message in the queue in the last month. It was a duplicate from a new poster who didn't realize we were moderated so he posted twice. If you want a statistic, I'd say 99% of deletions are this variety.

Dear deej,

In a thread in the Lounge, one of the participants here wrote an appalling post claiming that an escort, whom he named, is HIV+. Despite my pointing it out to you, you did not delete it.

How can you possibly not delete that post, when it violates BOTH of the rules compelling deletion -- (1) no personal information about escorts; and (2) no potentially libellous statements? That post is the consummate example of a post which violates BOTH rules, yet you sit there picking your ass. Why is that?

As the above referenced poster, I would formally like to apologize for creating a brouhaha, but I stand by my original statement. My motivation as always was to provide information. I regret any problems I may have caused.

As for deej, the man has a job to do and he was right to delete my post, for the first reason, not the second. Just because he doesn't move at your timetable or live in your mirror universe is no reason to insult the man.

Beware of Nick: How can you possibly justify naming someone and then identifying him as being HIV+? By your posting, you seem to apolize for the trouble you caused and then, at the same time, stand behind the posting. I am confused and, by the other responses, other prople are as well.To make matters worse, you include the phrase "Truth, Justice and American Way" in each of your postins. What's that all about? Or, have I just completely not understood your posting? I hope so.

"So I do apologize for causing a little mess." Why not just apologize without trying to minimize it as a "little" mess. You broke the rules of posting and your post had to be deleted. All because you wanted to publicly label someone as HIV+.

This follows an earlier incident where Hooboy himself had to publicly stop you about your postings against Nick of Atlanta.

This is the American Way? Roy Cohn would have thought so.

OK, both of you grow up. This range war has been going on long enough.

Behave, or I'll wake up Daddy.

(Oh god, I hate when I sound like my mother!)

Whatever is between you two, take it to e-mail, private messages, the streets, a strip club -- I don't care. Take it elsewhere.

Deej is your daddy? hehehe Deej, didn't you just call TT (sic) a shithead the other day? Maybe he and you should follow that advice as well. As for me, I personnally do not need to keep after BoN.

I did notice though, deej, that you and Hooboy, nor the infamous daddy said nothing when Truth Teller (sic) told me to "go slit your own throat" and that the person he would admire most would be the one who administered my "slow and painful death."

Certainly are a lot of individual foibles on what passes for acceptable posts here.

There are no rules against disgusting posts, just aganist libel and the sharing of personal information. Other than that, it's fair game. That doesn't mean we like some of the shit that flies around here, just that it's not against the rules. :-(

Lucky, it just seemed to me that you and BoN have been "after each other". Maybe I've just been lucky :+ in the threads I've read, but it's almost like you're following each other around like somebody's bratty little sister slinging barbs at every chance.

Shithead earned the sobriquet. I saw his message about the inappropriate post in the queue, immediately deleted the post, and in the time it took to do that (four mouse clicks, I think) had another message in the queue from him about my inaction. I think "slow, dumb deej" was his phrasing in his original post.

For anyone reading this, the fastest way to alert moderators to a problem post is to click ALERT at the bottom of the message. That sends e-mail to all moderators and admins. You won't have to wait for someone to come along and notice your post. You may not get action, but you won't have to wait for someone to notice you.

You certainly have the right to have your little range war with BoN. Neither of you is innocent here. :o I also have a right to object. }> There are words in the message center rules (which I wrote, more or less) specifically defending both of our rights here. ;)

>Shithead earned the sobriquet.

This is one of my favorite things to observe. There are certain people who self-righteously proclaim how distasteful and objectionable they find personal insults when used by others.

But then, when those precise same individuals spit out a personal insult, they insist that it's different when they do it, because - of course - their personal insult was justified.

I can't tell you how much I love watching that.

Sincerely,

Shithead
