A Different Point of View ?

Hi all,as a new person here and now i have taken the plunge and posted a couple of times and was pretty painless i would like to bring up something that i feel very strongly about and see what response if any it produces.

As a gay man who is now finally comfortable with my life and also as a guy who has hired escorts over a period of about 8 years up until about a year ago here in my home town of NY as well as around the country there is something i have never been able to tell them,that is what i did for a living,you see i am a member of the NYPD and have been for 15 years,now as i posted on the Attack on America section i am proud to be a cop (i am a 3rd generation cop)but i feel that there is so much distrust and ignorance about the police especially with the gay and lesbian community that in most peoples eyes hey see the uniform and not the person wearing it.

Now im not saying that all cops are saints they aint ..believe me ive worked with some real assholes over the years but as someone probably the only person in the NYPD to my knowledge who believes that prostitiution should be legalized(hey it is the worlds oldest profession after all..)and that the fact is that it will never ever go away no matter how many sweeps of places like the Gaiety the department does or how much time i waste doing paperwork after arresting the same hookers and hustlers week in ,week out only for the circle to stay as it were.

As someone who in one of my old precincts in the West Village who used to do work with the anti violence programs against Gay and Lesbian New Yorkers i felt that a difference however small was being made.

I know that people will say that the law states and the fact that escorting is illegal here in NYC and that the guys who post here regularly probably earn more money than i do(i aint bitter honest ;-)) but I would be interested in seeing what peoples thoughts are regarding the situation as it stands re the police and the gay community not just here in NY but in other cities as well.I'm not doing this on official time just in case people think i am being a snoop for the NYPD it is something i have become increasingly interested in ,Thanks for reading it may not be the best written piece but it is my honest opinion.

Personally, you are as cool as they cum. But your employer is occasionally setting up those sting operations, so I guess some resentment is understandable. You are better off not disclosing your occupation when you meet an escort, unless they have a big fetish for uniforms. Just an opinion.

To answer your question the department is ok about couples ,we dont work together he works Uptown in Harlem i work Downtown but its ok,its just i work nearer home than he does(we live in Staten Island) .Take care

Personally, I like policemen who don't have a lot of attitude, but I have not done a survey as to what percentage that might be.

Well, GOAL (Gay Officers Action league) ALWAYS gets a rousing applause in the Gay Pride Parade.

 

I have always noticed the cops seem to be pretty cool on Gay Pride Day.....it's gotta be an easy gig...unlike some parades up there.

Rush, I've enjoyed reading both of your posts; I am glad that we are expanding the number of professions on this board. I was never afraid to the call the cops for help when I lived in NYC and don't fear them now in San Francisco. They always seemed pretty sophisticated about what was going on in the the gay community and, obviously many were gay themselves. (Chicago was a different matter entirely!).

 

If I were you though, I would wait to tell and escort or other date that I was a cop after I had seen them a couple of times. By that time a certain level of trust would be there. Showing them your handcuffs might be a good icebreaker. }>

Hey guys,nice to see some interesting and funny replies,as a member of GOAL and someone who has marched on Pride Day for me its a blast,i've done the last 10 Pride Days and never have had any trouble,4 me its just an excuse to see lots of great looking guys naked..or nearly naked:P ,one thing that makes me laugh is guys who come up and kiss infront of you trying to provoke a reaction not realizing that i am a gay cop who doesnt give a shit what they do,and is wishing i had someone there to kiss as well !.

This year 2001 for the first time i went as a civilian with my BF who caused quite a stir amongst other revellers as well as some of the cops we knew by going along almost naked i swear he was black and blue by the time we got home with all the groping and pinching that was going on he loved it and said he's definitely going again next year !!

As someone else asked i am out at work when i made the decision back in '93 to come out i told my superiors who were quite cool and once it was around the station in like 30 seconds i was the talk of the locker room for like a week before someone elses life became the main topic of conversation,i wanted it like that i came to a decision to be truthful and despite some idiots who took against me,the vast majority of my colleagues and friends were and still are supportive,its not like im the only gay cop in the NYPD ,its GOAL's 20th anniversary next year.

P.S I know what you mean about the overweight uniform guys,just to let you know i aint one of them ,i am a reasonable 175lbs and 5'11 my BF who i admit is a lot younger(12 years)than me is a buff 6'2 and 200lbs we dont do the patented NYPD coffee and donut diet.

Times have changed. The Gay & Lesbian officers' float is one of the most favored every year in the Pride parade here. I don't know of anyone who is "afraid" to deal with the police.

 

There are bad apples everywhere, tho. There's currently quite a protest over the IL State Attorney's refusal to prosecute law enforcement officers accused of gay bashing people in custody. Elections are coming, and I suspect he'll learn about the work "backlash".

This year's Pride Parade here in Houston was our first both for the sitting Mayor (Don't you just love that phrase?) and for the gay policeperson's group to march. It was greatly appreciated by all present as far as I could tell.

Am I correct in assuming that you have some leeway in choosing which part of the force you go into? I really don't mind any policemen other than vice cops.

And I second or third whoever welcomed you the first! It is great to have you around.

I agree with cmp and this time cmp you took the words right out of my mouth instead of bucky taking them out of yours.;-)~ Now cmp as for your fetish comment. I have always had this fantasy about showing up to see a client and him opening the door with his entire uniform on and proceeding to arrest me and read me my rights. From there I beg and plead with him not to arrest me proclaiming to fulfill anything he asks in hopes of escaping arrest. From that point as you can probably tell where I'm leading he forces me to do certain tasks never releasing me from the cuffs the entire time. After he "Get off" he gets up and walks out. There I sit all stiff and sad when the door opens with him reenetering. "He's come back to take me home and make sweet love to me this time allowing me to carress his manly face and body!" Nope! Hey, not all the uniformed cops here in NY are fat and unappealing. I've noticed over the past few years there are plenty of rather hunky ones (though they appeared to me to be new recruits... maybe they'll go pear-shaped over time, especially if they're straight).

 

I can still remember rather vividly last year this young asian cop in chelsea, quite built, handsome... it was all i could no not to flirt (sanity prevailed). I don't have a uniform fetish, but well...

Fat cops.... Go to Chicago. Geez, some these guys are obese. Once I was ticketed for a red light violation. I looked in my side-view mirror only to see this large blue THING approaching. I thought it was a moving water tower. The 100 foot walk from his unit had exhausted him. He was sweating profusely, and panting for air. Just to make him work more, I asked questions that required long explanations. He was unable to speak. In the court room, he couldn't fit into the seats... he sat sideways on the last seat of the row.

 

Is he going run after a 19 y.o. purse snatcher, or wrestle a suspect to the ground? I am not svelte by any means, but I work in an office, and I don't need to be slim and trim. He should have some physical ability to pull that job off.

This thread is both interesting and very funny. I too, love a man in a uniform, but guess my tastes have run more toward the military boys. I have several really hunky cop friends who are cops, but they're about as straight as they come, and would probably bust me in a heartbeat if I ever suggested anything sexual to them.
