Even though I love puzzles and enjoy trying to figure out what is being stated on vanity plates, I have given up trying to decypher some of the short hand. Abbreviations such as IMHO, OMG (Oh, my God?) and the truly quizzical ROFLMO or some such. Would someone please lift the veil of secrecy on what some of these acronymns mean? We in the dark want to see light. At least I do.:)

Those are called TLAs. (TLA = Three Letter Acronym, and in a truly ironic twist very few are actually three letters. ;-)) They originated when computer transmission was much slower and bandwidth was VERY expensive. They were intended to cut down on transmission times and have just sorta stuck with us.

 

IMO= In My Opinion

 

IMHO= In My Humble/Honest Opinion (even if the former was intended it's almost always the latter)

 

ROFL= Rolling On the Floor Lauging

ROFLMAO = Rolling On Floor Laughing My Ass Off
