I emailed the Axel with a question . Would you know if they would have or could recommend an escort/guide for a stay there ? I am contemplating a change on my cruise from arriving in Lisbon to arriving in Barcelona. I think that I would like Barcelona better. I checked the escort agency Arrowmen and they have some available guys. Is there a currency exchange at the Axel or is a bank close by ? Would they have a shuttle pick-up at the dock whhen I arrive ?:-)

OceanTraveller,

Axel is a hotel, not an escort agency. Would you call the Marriott asking for an escort recommendation ?

There is no shuttle service from the Olympic port of Barcelona, but that's not a problem because you can grab a taxi - there are plenty of them available. The new port is well organized. Last time the line was pretty long, but I waited about 5 minutes only. It would cost about 15-20 Euros from the port to the hotel. You can withdraw Euros at any of the ATMs around the hotel (better rate than using an exchange bureau).

Enjoy your trip !

It really is easier, then you are making it.

IF you can take a cruise, you can handle the hotel, sauna, ATM, dining, etc. Even if you can't speak the language.

Don't make it difficult, unless you need to make conversation.

What you should be thinking about is will we still be able to fly or take a cruise in 2007? Any alternative plan?

Thanks for all the great info on Barcelona... I have 2 questions in preparation for my visit in May (2006):

1 - is the Thermas sauna frequented primarily by rent boys and clients or is it a regular sauna like you'd find in other European cities that just happens to have some business going on? In other words: How does it work? will I be able to find the working boys easily?

2- is anyone familiar with Hotel Jazz in Barcelona. It sounds pretty good from what I read but would love to hear a first hand experience.

Thanks!

Thermas sauna is open 24 hours a day every day. All boys there are rent boys. Most of the boys are from Brasil, even though there are some from eastern europe, Turkey, Spain or North Africa.

Most of them are muscular type, even though there are some twinks. For inviting you, the boys tend to show you their dick (in any times their erect dick) or even to put it in your hand.

They can be a little pushy, but they had to pay their entry fee and they are here to make money. Normally it is 40 E. Sometimes, you can go for 30 or 50 depending on the aspect of the boy, the number of punters, the time of the day or nite, ...

It is a very pleasant place to stay some time.

A large part is all new, with video room, wet sauna, bar, new cubicles, etc.

Enjoy

RE: Barcelona: American Boys

This is about this most accurate review I have read about American Boys. From Daddy's Reviews dated 9JUL07

Before visiting Barcelona I had heard from friends about the availability of escorts at brothels. Specifically I had heard about American Boys on the Ronda Universidad, so I checked it out. It was a very positive experience, so I'll describe it here in case anyone is travelling to Barcelona and is interested. American Boys is in an apparently very middle class apartment building in the center of the city on the third or fourth floor. There's a buzzer outside with their name on it, but no sign or anything extremely visible. It's easy enough to get the address from the internet though. You press their doorbell outside and they buzz you in the front door. Take the elevator or stair up and ring their front door (again, no sign, but you know the apt. no. by now). A handsome young man met me at the door and asked me in.

In perfect English, he described to me the services offered and the fee. He said they had a number of boys available that day, and that they could give a massage and have sex if I wished for 100 euros an hour, including the room and a free drink. I agreed and he led me into a bedroom with cleanly made up bed, low lighting and a shower/bath off to one side. He offered me a drink and a seat, and then each of the boys came in one at a time. The guys came in shirtless, walked over to me and shook hands or kissed me lightly, gave me their name, and engaged in a view minutes of conversation and rubbing through clothes. All were young, lithe, Mediterranean types -- most probably South American, maybe some Spanish -- but dark-haired, olive-skinned. One said he was Colombian, another Brazilian, others didn't specify. I'd guess most were between 20-25 yrs. old. All were friendly. None were big or muscular in the body builder sense, but rather, naturally toned and muscled due to their youth. Most were relatively masculine acting, no flamers. After the parade of five or six guys, the "host" who answered the door originally returned to ask me if I had made a choice. I asked him a couple of questions, and finally settled on the very pretty Brazilian guy, named Bruno (his stats are the ones I filled in above). The session was very satisfactory, with Bruno being totally participatory, happy to oblige, rock hard, and seeming to enjoy it. He spoke very little English, but we made a little conversation in my broken Spanish. We took a shower together afterward and I tipped Bruno. I paid the 100 euros to the host, then dressed and left.

Their hours are, I believe, 11 a.m. till midnight. My session was in the afternoon. Personally, I find it much less intimidating to try out unfamiliar places like this in broad daylight. But this place is not intimidating anyway. The place is easy-going, clean, and seems safe. It has also been around a while, so I assume this is all perfectly legal in Spain. According to the local gay publication "Nois" there are two other such establishments, one called Neron (also in the main gay area, Eixample), and the other called BDN Boys that is not in the center city (from what I can tell). I don't know what those places are like, but American Boys is very pleasant, and makes sense for a tourist who might not want to have an escort in his hotel room. Apparently some saunas also have rentboys, but I really liked the directness of this. If bordellos existed elsewhere it would make the whole escort biz much easier, cleaner and safer, I think. The only other gay "bordello" I've seen was in Amsterdam, but it was not nearly as nice as this one. The photos on the web site of the place and of the boys are quite accurate.

RE: Barcelona: American Boys

I visited American Boys once, many years ago. I was told that I had to commit to (and pay for) a session before I could see the selection of boys. As I'm fairly picky, this was not an arrangement I was willing accept -- and I was shown the door.

Is this still the policy?

RE: Barcelona: American Boys

It's still not the policy. Pay when you leave. Have been there a number of times, and ALWAYS found mr. right, so have not left without having used their services. Try Jose from Cuba. Top guy, very pleasant, speaks English.

If you want a sauna with rent boys, Thermos is the best. If you want a regular sauna, try Casanova. Fine fecilities and lots of people who want to engage in fun.:-)

Hotel Axel is good, with excellent location. Hope for activities in the jaccuzzi and sauna in the hotel around midnight. Often no need to go to another suna.

I was at Thermas a couple of times last week. It's true that there are plenty of guys but I found it much less satisfying than Brazil. The place is ok but the rooms are not good. The mattress is plastic and there's nothing to clean up the cum with. The boys are fine but not as willing as in Brazil, at least in my experience. I actually had more fun with Spanish guy who wasn't that cute but could suck like a world champ. He was the only truly good experience out of 4. The other 3 weren't terrible but "average." fine but not worth a repeat. But Barcelona was so fun it didn't matter. SF Traveler

When I was in Brazil and at the various saunas, my not knowing Brazilian Portuguese did not hinder me in getting the guys that I desired. If I had known the language or some of it (the basics)-- of course my experience would have been different.

Just thought that I'd write this because I hope to be at the sauna in question in September of 2009.

This hotel is rather expensive, too!

I will be staying at The Axel Hotel in Barcelona in September 2009. By it being a gay owned (hetero-friendly) hotel, I do not envision having any problems by having guests. Others apparently have not from what I have read....

Having stayed and visited hotel Axel several times you won't have ANY problem having a guest or several guests at the same time :)

Speaking of Hotel Axel: check out the one in Buenos Aires (very trendy and much nicer property than the one in Barcelona) and also the newly opened one in Berlin !

Cheers,

The Hotel Axel in Buenos Aires is a beautiful and well-appointed place; the only drawback is that it is situated in a not-so nice barrio or immediate neighborhood.

If I manage to be in Buenos Aires next March/April, I plan to go there for its ambience and bar and restaurant although I'll be staying in an apartment in Recoleta. (I plan to visit a few hotels to admire the architec-- decor- furnishings-- and floral arrangements: The Axel will be part of this viewing!)
