In the month or so that I have been reading this board you have shown yourself to be one of the more upbeat and kinder posters. That ‘Sex after escorting’ thread must have really gotten under your skin considering it was several days ago and the obvious thought that went into your post. I shouldn’t make blanket statements, considering my limited time here, but I imagine it is somewhat against your nature to blast someone like that.

 

I don’t pretend (and wouldn’t presume) to understand FFF. He is obviously very intelligent, brutally honest, and seems to have a bit of a cruel streak. He surely knows that just because he throws in “I’m not trying to make you guys feel bad about yourselves” it doesn’t negate the rest of the extreme and hurtful language he uses.

 

It’s too bad though. Even though he is one of the most sardonic posters I’ve ever read, (you can practically see the sneer) he just cracks me up. When he’s not being cruel, he has a black and biting humor that brings out the worst in me and makes me laugh. He obviously doesn’t have any problems with lack of self-esteem, or self-loathing, or some of the other similar things he has been accused of, and I’m impressed that you didn’t go there in your post.

 

The thing I am most curious about and you bring up in your post is…why would anyone with such contempt for escorts ever use their services? It seems wholly unethical to believe that escorts are engaging in a harmful, self-destructive profession, and then hire them anyway. Surely he doesn’t believe it’s okay to help fuck up someone’s life as long as you get your rocks off.

 

(Fin, I’m sure you’ll read this, and your first response is probably going to be “I don’t have to explain myself to you vapid morons” but inquiring minds want to know. When you hire an escort, aren’t you concerned that you are enabling their self-destruction?)

Is Fin Fang Foom a polemicist or a bigot?

 

In cyberspace, hiding behind monitors (and monikers), cowards find strength. Cloaked with anonymity, bigots have a safe arena to assault others verbally. There's no shame in their voices. No accountability for their words.

 

How does one distinguish rabble-rousers from the true bigots? Behind the monitor, it's easy for someone to talk out of both sides of his mouth. Does FFF honestly believe what he so proudly declares? Does he have such contempt for ALL escorts? Or is he just talking out his ass? Is Fin Fang Foom merely a polemicist or is he truly a bigot?

 

In the real world, we cannot ignore bigots – nor should we. By turning a blind eye to racism or homophobia, or any form of bigotry, we allow it to breed. We allow hatred to grow. But since this is cyberspace, we can ignore FFF’s taunts and insults by simply turning off the monitor.

 

But even though this is cyberspace, the M4M site is different from other online forums. Although posters use pseudonyms, this site is not about hiding our identities. Just the opposite. This site introduces people. Men come here to hire escorts. And this message center is a community not made up of strangers. Many here are friends. Many here are friends who meet face to face.

 

Fin Fan Foom loudly exclaims his name to everyone in this forum. "I AM FIN FANG FOOM!" Although FFF says he hires escorts and reveals he personally knows escorts in this forum, he is cloaked with anonymity. Does he admit, "I am Fin Fang Foom," in the real world? Does he reveal his online persona, and his online opinions, to the escorts he hires?

 

As an escort, it's discomforting to imagine FFF as a client, considering his contempt for us. Fin Fang Foom proudly declares ALL escorts are LAZY. They're ASHAMED. Anyone saying he isn't EMBARRASSED is a LIAR. ALL career escorts are FUCKED-UP in the head and FUCKED-UP in bed.

 

It’s disturbing to think of FFF meeting an escort face to face and saying – or thinking – "Get ready, you fucked-up whore; I'm gonna fuck you into oblivion."

 

FFF also admits to having a personal friendship with an escort on this message center. But when that friend spoke proudly of his profession FFF denounced him and cut him off at the knees. FFF called him a LIAR, a tacky WHORE and said being a WHORE is nothing to be proud of.

 

Does FFF reveal his true self to friends in the real world? Does he dare reveal his thoughts and opinions -- his fanatical bigotry? How much shame is in his voice? How much honesty?

 

Fin Fan Foom bellows his name in cyberspace. He shouts and flames. The fire-breathing dragon is too arrogant to apologize, too foolish to know when to shut up. In the real world, I imagine this fork-tongued lizard remains silent. Too afraid to speak, or even whisper his own name -- just a small, garden-variety coward.

I, for one, certainly didn't see any hate exhibited in Zach's post. It's clearly a response to all the comments that FFF has made in the sex after escorting thread over the last few days, which I would *assume* is the reason that FFF got demoted to moderated status. But you, of course, would know more about that than I.

 

And what's up with Truth Teller? He certainly makes me go hmmmm.... When I'm not banging my head against my computer desk in utter frustration from his posts!

I know this is off the topic - but how does one know whether or not one is "moderated"? Just asking.

If your posts go up immediately, you're not moderated. If there's a noticeable delay in your posts appearing, it's highly likely you're moderated.

 

In general, if you have a lot of posts and you have a good track record, you're not moderated. Occasionally the moderators discuss who deserves to be upgraded to unmoderated status (usually after we get tired of constantly clearing messages from a guy who clearly deserves to be unmoderated!) On rarer occasions, we discuss the need to demote someone whose posts are problematic. As in all things on this board, HooBoy has the final say on all these matters; moderators make suggestions, but follow whatever HooBoy decides.

I am so appreciative of ZachDC's very well written and considered response to FFF's tirades in the the thread "Sex After Escorting." My observations of the life-span of a controversial thread is that an inflammatory statement is made, there is a cyber-pause as people try to determine the seriousness of the words, then reactions that are less-than thought through, attempts to explain, clarify and then a degeneration into a deep well of nastier and increasingly more hostile responses. Attempts are made to respond reasonably, to moderate it and then suddenly it has collapsed into a quagmire of supreme cruelty, hatred and bare-ass pathology. An amazing dynamic.

I have considered entering into these frays, believing as ZachDC stated that bold-faced bigotry must be confronted, but choose not to add fuel to the flames. I would rather write or see a direct and honest hit on the pathology and then ignore the response of the bigot and move on to exchanges that are less harmful.

People can say what they want and believe what they want. I do not have to read them, participate with them or be a target for their hostility and sickness.

ZachDC's intelligent, non-inflammatory and clear post was a balm for me after FFF's posting of his thoughts. And ZachDC's observations about the anonymity of cyber exchanges were right on the mark.

More than anything, I am so impressed by intelligent, fine wordcraftsmanship and sensible thinking. You've rated near the top of my list, Zach, for quite a while, but have now surpassed expectations. Sit solid in your beliefs and with your convictions. You're right on the mark. BRAVO!

The poster that began this thread managed to get as much namecalling ("foolish," "arrogant," "coward," "bigot" among others) into one post as FFF usually does in three or four of his posts. I suppose that during a recession it's more important than ever to be economical.

 

It's amusing to see that he's being applauded by one or two posters who in the past have chided others for being "judgmental." Apparently, the question whether being "judgmental" is good or bad depends on whether the person on the receiving end is someone you like. That's as I always suspected. :-)

Everything Zach said regarding FFF was warranted. FFF has brought this upon himself. I find it especially interesting that he stopped posting as soon as I sent a message to his inbox informing him that I knew his true identity.

 

Oh, and "GARDEN-variety coward" is practically a clue as to who

FFF really is. I'm sure he's still slithering around somewhere here...posting under one or the other of his multiple personalities.
