And no, this thread is not about Half-Truth Teller (I knew there would be some confusion, so I wanted to be clear :p)

Dear Sir,

As one of YOUR customers, I am turned off by your new Red Cross ad. I do not

visit your site for ads like that. Before you lose more customers you might

want to rethink this ad.

First off, since Hooboy is not SELLING you anything you are not a customer and second of all, I don't think I'll be alone here, please go directly to hell. Do not pass Osama bin Laden. Do not collect $200.

What an asshole!

Well I agree that Hooboy isn't selling anything. He is "Advertising" something. And in this case I feel that he is advertising for a very good cause which in my opinion is what every American is trying to do right now. All that is possibly in the reach of each American to lend a hand in these trying times.

Now if this guy can't understand that, then it's up to him whether or not he stops using this site. To be perfectly honest though, I don't feel that his one enail will spark any type of crusade against such a wonderful site.

So instead of calling him an asshole, I'll just say thanks. Thanks for reminding me that such people exist still. People that have such petty lives that they feel the need and have the time to write complaints towards someone putting an effort torwards help.

And thanks to you Nick...

RE: Defending Assholes

I don't understand you would call this ignorant person an asshole, one of the most fascinating parts of the body. Let's start a new trend of referring to jerks as kneecaps, shins, or elbows. (Heel is already in use.) "What a filtrum" also has a bit of snap to it. Suggestions?

>Can we have an "ignore" feature that allows us to read a post without having to read these three?

I've seen this in chat rooms and have used it on occassion. Don't know how easy that would be on a site like this. But, even without the "ignore" features, I too have a few regulars I never read. :-(

I think the topic was actually about a guy who took offense at the Red Cross. Lets try not to take offense at each other. Okay? :-)

Now, about the Red Cross ad being offensive...maybe this guy is part of the terrorist organization. I firmly believe that they have recruited caucasions to carry out some of their plans. Money and/or drugs could be a big influence on someone who takes offense at the Red Cross.

I assume the gentleman in question was taking umbrage to the fact that the Red Cross denies gays the right to donate blood if they have had any sexual relationship in the past 20 years or so. Given this fact, it is a little hypocritical to advertise on a gay oriented site.

Notwithstanding this, I like the other posters here heartily support the work and mission of the Red Cross. I just wish they were a little more enlightened on the gay issue.

Just to set the record straight, all organizations that collect blood for donation are to exclude men who have had sex with another man since 1977. This is one part of the FDA "donor exclusion criteria". It's the FDA calling the shots with the input of the CDC, not organizations such as the Red Cross.

1. I did not mention anyone's name or handle in my post, so I was not mudslingling.

2. I am paranoid.

I respect what the Redcross does in disaster relief, blood work, and health issues. However, I haven't seen a lot about their admin/finances. And, I was never a fan of the Dole's. (perhaps they will distribute viagra for those in need).

Maybe the exclusion of gay men donating blood is discrimination or paraniod responses. But, when this policy was started, the testing of blood was not perfect. IMHO, it is a precaution, and with some legitimate reasons. I don't think the policy was based on intolerance or homophobia, but more as extreme caution with the blood supply. Some gays have not tested for hiv, and do not know their status. I don't know a lot about viral loads, but I hear how some patients have loads that are undetectable. If the blood has undetectable levels of hiv, it implies there is still some viral load. I am sure most people with this status would not consider donating blood anyway, but does make me consider that testing will not identify some cases of hiv in blood samples.

Gays can support the Redcross in ways other than plasma. They will gladly take our monetary donations. Except for the Republicans, most organizations have come to like us gays once they found out we have money.

Personally, I hate getting my arm poked for blood tests, so I have no problem to forgo blood donations.

For what it's worth - for a month, I recommended that contributions go to the NY Fireman's fund rather than the Red Cross. I just needed to clear the space for advertisers. Perhaps I should have left the NY Fireman's fund ad up and taken down the Red Cross instead. Maybe that's what Bubba Bin Ladin was upset about.

Personally, I would rather have my contributions go to the families of the firefighters who gave their lives up needlessly rather than support a $100,000 year executive that runs any agency but it takes money to run any viable charity and you have to pay the executives that make them work.

Now, excuse me while I back-pedal to my favorie drinking establishment and kiss the sky.
