I'm not sure whether this has been done before or not. But I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the moderators here for the time and efforts that they have dedicated to the message centre.

So THANK YOU all, deej, Losgatan, Barry, Daddy-in-Training and bottomboykk! :-)

I also appreciate what the moderators do. Seems like a pretty "thankless" task, with a sizable amount of grief thrown in to boot. I shudder to think what it must be like to keep us folks in line.....sort of like "herding cats". So thanks again, trail bosses of the Hooboy Ranch! You're much loved and appreciated here!

I'm more of a "grope" rather than a "group" person, but I'd like to join group of people here and echo their thanks for a job well done.

What functions do moderators serve here? Is this another example where adults on the Internet think that they're incapable of engaging in discussion without some Daddy Figure Censor standing by to delete "inappropriate" things and protect everyone from reading anything mean or insensitive, or do moderators here merely perform administrative functions?

The most important thing they do is to make sure people's personal/private emails & email addresses, phone numbers, real names,etc., are not reprinted without permission. I believe anyone is free otherwise to be as nasty as they want here. But...ya know...it's still not nice. :-)

Moderators are here to keep HooBoy from being sued, basically. There are few rules:

* No personal information

* No libel

* No slander

New posters, such as yourself, are "moderated" which means when you post a message it goes into a queue where a moderator must review it before it becomes visible. (As I did with the message I'm replying to.)

Posters with a track record of sanity are "unmoderated" which means their posts are not processed through the queue.

Since you're new, I'll repeat the history. A former escort went a little nuts and posted revealing and private information, and threatened more. His stated goal was the demise of this site. Since discretion is a must, the moderation system was implemented.

If we were deleting anything "insensitive" most of your posts would have disappeared long ago. There are no rules against rudeness, meanness, idiocy, or being an outright asshole. Feel free to be as much of a jerk as you want, just don't break Miss Mona's "no no" rules, listed above.

Thanks for the information. My understanding is that the provider of a bulletin board serivce (or any venue for communication) can't be sued for content put on the board *unless* they actively monitor the board and edit the content, in which case they can be sued for doing so negligently. The telephone company can't be sued for your use of their lines to defame or threaten someone, and the bulletin board provider is the same - unless they start editing content. That's my understanding, anyway. The rules as you described them seem pretty innocuous and reasonable.

Sounds ugly; sorry I missed it. That escort semms vicious and unstable - and therefore hot. Do you have contact information for him or pics?

I believe your understanding is incorrect. Just ask the gay Sailor who sued AOL for outing him. I believe there's a difference as well whether or not you're paying for the service.

For the record, no editing of content goes on in this message center. We couldn't if we wanted to. The software does not allow it. All we can really do is delete, and that's done VERY rarely. Even when someone asks us to delete their own postings, we generally just advise them to post a correction as a follow-on message.

That's intentional.

No.

Guest Gentle Dude

Let me echo the same sentiment here...THANKS GUYS.

Despite that little disagreement with Deej last week, I still think he's a great guy. :)

Keep up the good work.

A very good friend of mine is fond of saying "you're not really friends with someone until you've been through at least one disagreement".

From that statement, we can extrapolate a LOT of very good friendships on this board. LOL

When I consider how much of my time is spent just reading and responding to posts that interest me, I am awestruck at the amount of time the moderators must spend reading EVERYTHING, no matter how mindless, turgid or offensive to their own sensibilities. So, add my thanks for your generally thankless work.

My thanks to all the moderators also. However if we praise them too much their heads are going to swell and I see NO problem with that either! :p

Hi Kevin, I bet you would love to make "their heads below the belt" swell. Keep stroking (their ego or .......), baby! :-)
