This is an interesting subject to me, because I've been thinking about these kinds of things for some time. Odd as it sounds for encounters as bleached of reality as only the internet can make them, I genuinely like many of the posters here and think that, if we lived close to each other, we might become quite good friends. From time to time I've had the opportunity to exchange private e-mails with some of them, and in that context they were even more likeable than I'd supposed.

So far, however, I have not had the pleasure of meeting any of them face to face. A year or so ago, I once suggested that we throw a HooBoy Benefit in New York. The idea was that the clients would make a contribution for the event, there would be a cash bar, and the escorts could come for free. The only requirement, apart from the contribution, would be a name-tag on which each person wrote the alias he uses on this board. There would be no requirement for a genuine surrender of anonymity; and by having the benefit in a large city, there wouldn't even be the presumption that one lived there. Of course, we could do the same thing in Chicago, Houston, LA and San Francisco. It would be great fun, I think, and might help HooBoy with his constantly tenuous budget line.

Of course, all of this is easy for me to dream up, because I don't live near any one of these potential venues!

I, for one, would gladly attend such an event. But one of the things that I wonder about is whether, once we all knew one another personally, we would be as honest in our future posts. Personal friendship can actually hinder candid expressions, and one of the things I enjoy most about this message board is the freedom to tell ANYTHING I have thought or done, including those things which I have never told to even my most intimate friends.

I have never knowingly met anyone else from the board, but one of the posters initiated a direct correspondence with me in which we revealed a good deal of personal information. Then he suddenly stopped responding to my emails and he ceased to post here, and so I am left wondering what happened to him.

RE: Getting to Know You

"The only requirement, apart from the contribution, would be a name-tag on which each person wrote the alias he uses on this board."

Will -- I would look forward to getting to know you (and others on the site) on a name-tag to name-tag basis.

> A year or so ago, I once suggested that we throw a HooBoy Benefit in New York

I'd gladly attend something like this, budget and schedule permitting. (If we're in New York, Rick Munroe is MINE that nite! ;-))

This whole discussion is like deja vu all over again. In the late 70's, the heyday of the CB radio, entire communities developed around specific channels and times of day. I'll never forget my joy when I'd hear "Dipsy Doodle" sign in for the evening's conversation.

Social events were organized, and it was wonderful getting to put a face to that anonymous voice. (Dipsy was a shriveled 80yo woman, but on the air she was the life of the party!)

About six or seven years ago, a bunch of folks who hung out on a specific compuserve forum I was on gathered for a cookout/gabfest at one of the members' homes in Philly. People came from as far away as NYC and DC. It was just great.

About two years ago, videosecrets.com in Toronto held a "customer nite" at Remingtons. People who were online regularly showed up and had to wear name tags with their online name. (I wasn't there, but I heard it was great fun!)

It could probably work.

No matter where it's held, it should be done either close to or as part of some major other event. White Party in Palm Springs, FireBall in Chicago, Black Party in NYC, Southern Decadence in NO, FantasyFest in Key West, etc. That increases the likelihood of having the guys we adore in town. Of course it also means they'll likely be tired. ;-)

I'm going to the Joey and Carlo Pool Party in Palm Springs next month. According to Joey, there will be about 300-350 people attending the charity event. I'm thinking that a number of people from this site may be attending as well since he said that people all over the US and as far as Canada and London are flying in. There will also be 17 porn stars and numerous escorts from the Southern California area and Las Vegas attending the party. I'm bringing a very popular escort with me. I reserved the biggest room in the resort that's located on the lst floor so if any of you guys want to meet and have a party within a party, shoot me a message in my in-box. I would love to meet and chat with some of you.

Will,

I signed on to your original suggestion a year ago and I'm still signed on... However, since it seems unlikely to materialize, I'm biding my time until I find myself in or near Cleveland -- a smaller gathering for sure, but maybe the right size for dinner -- that is unless your globe trotting at the time. :-)
