Van slams into crowd at Berlin Pride fest; 1 dead, 16 hurt

A van slammed into people gathered for Berlin’s famed Pride festival on Saturday night, killing one person, injuring at least 16 others and prompting police to call off the celebrations and a concert in the German capital hours after they had begun.

Berlin police said they have identified a suspect who has not been arrested and he has ties to Islamic groups in the German capital.

“The suspect is known to police. He is known to us as a member of Islamic circles here in Berlin, and our search for this person is proceeding at full speed,” said police spokesman Florian Nath. He did not identify the suspect by name.

Nath added that “we still have no information whatsoever regarding his specific motives, the exact sequence of events, or his role in the crime itself.”

Earlier, police said some of the victims had life-threatening injuries. In a post on X, police called on everyone to leave the site of the event immediately as ambulances and firefighters attended to the victims.

And when I recall the various similar attacks over the years in other German cities - particularly on crowded Christmas markets - I wonder whether the German security & intelligence services are doing enough to prevent recurrence

This isn’t Terminator, artificial intelligence hasn’t taken over the world and isn’t killing humans.  A man drove that van trying to kill Pride participants, he has a name, and he is currently on the run.  Yet so-called journalists bury his name, his photo (surely one exists somewhere), and other information that could make it easier to find him.  If the suspect were a white German, I’m guessing the same so-called journalists would be far less reticent.

Perhaps that’s a debate for another day.  What is not debatable is that a driver slammed that van into Pride participants, the van sure as hell didn’t drive itself.

Agree! And they  always seem to be committed by people from a certain group that claims to be a "religion of peace" that ironically the lgbtq+ "community" in western countries is very supportive of despite their abismal centuries long worldwide track record and clear doctrinal ideology! 🙄

Related thread, unfortunately some folks deny some people not only don't like us but also want to kill us just like the do back home in their shithole countries!
