d.anders Posted May 21 Posted May 21 I could use a good laugh, and the preview looks very promising. If it's a major success, RuPaul could be the next "senior" version of Tyler Perry. thomas 1
BuffaloKyle Posted May 22 Posted May 22 I can't believe this is actually going to theaters before streaming. 😅
d.anders Posted May 22 Author Posted May 22 Adam Shankman is director. It's a major motion picture, with Universal Pictures sharing distribution. The writers have a popular queer comedy podcast. RuPaul loves to laugh, so the script had to pass his muster, assuming he's a tough critic of funny. I don't know about the rest of the country, but several theaters in NYC will be showing this film. I will be going with a friend who loves Drag Race.
+ sync Posted May 22 Posted May 22 Probably just a product of my advanced maturity, but I found the trailer rather silly. marylander1940, MikeBiDude, Danny-Darko and 1 other 4

Reminds me of Airplane, the non-stop deadpan humor. Hope they made it work. I have always liked Ru Paul. His Insta can be pretty funny. https://www.instagram.com/p/DNV9QlwJhTo/ I watch a little bit of his drag race show, but for me it's not really "must see TV". I'm interested when they post what the budget was and see what critics think. thomas and Becket 2

I think I saw an interview where RuPaul says that is exactly what they were shooting for. He said he loved those 70's/80's movies because they made him howl. Edited May 23 by d.anders
Rod Hagen Posted May 24 Posted May 24 I always feels sad when I see SMG. She never was able to get past the Buffy label. Same struggle Sally Field initially had with Gidget, though Sally Field, a much better actress, eventually did push past it. I love you Buf..Sarah! BSR and thomas 1 1

With a nose like that, you're damned if you do, damned if you don't. I never saw Buffy, but I have friends who absolutely loved that show. RuPaul is playing the POTUS as a drag queen. I'm pretty sure the film is meant to be silly. + sync 1

It's a shame her father in law killed himself when her hubby was ten months old.
d.anders Posted June 13 Author Posted June 13 LOL. Today's NYTimes has Stop That Train as a Critic's Pick. I haven't read the review because I'm seeing the movie on Monday. https://www.nytimes.com/2026/06/11/movies/stop-that-train-review.html The headline reads: "Gleefully Going Off the Rails" MascSissyBoy 1
d.anders Posted June 16 Author Posted June 16 I saw it last night. Absolutely dreadful. I wish I could get my $46 back. The best (and only) jokes are in the previews. I can't believe how lame this movie was, considering the astounding hype. The NYTimes should be ashamed. RuPaul and company attempted to make another Airplane, but failed miserably. Maybe some straight people will find this lame crap funny. There is plenty of hungry talent here, which begs the question, what the fuck were the writers thinking? Except for the few jokes that appear in the trailer, the script was awful, and not funny. Most of the film is stupid, with the most childish antics. Almost every attempt at humor falls flat. In my audience, there were no hearty guffaws. No applause at the end. Even the bloopers during the credits failed. They weren't funny enough. I think the film is a rip-off. It tries to copy a 70's cult classic, and fails to deliver anything remotely close. It's not even worth watching on streaming. A boring dud. Rod Hagen 1
BuffaloKyle Posted June 17 Posted June 17 Yikes, yeah I knew my instinct to just wait for it to come to streaming was the best option. It shouldn't be too long before it hits streaming. thomas 1
