Same day inquiries only just means he's only interested in clients who want to see him that day, not that he will respond to all inquiries within the same day.

Yes, but if he doesn't answer back a request on the same day then the client  never has a chance to be seen on that day.

Probably because they booked with another client first. Providers don't always open their DMs in chronological order. OP may have messaged the provider first thing in the morning but if the provider gets online at 1pm and books whoever messaged most recently then that's just how it is sometimes. Providers get lots of messages and sometimes your message gets buried, they can't always respond to everyone and there's no first come first serve queue 🤷‍♂️
