Lately every time I see a commercial for Botox or for plaque psoriasis, the narrator talks about deciding to use the medication because of their moderate to severe frown lines or plaque psoriasis. Have you ever used, or known anyone who has used, the phrase moderate to severe? Every time I see one of those commercials now I cringe even more than I normally would have because of how stupidly unrealistic the voiceover is.

Just ranting a bit here…

These are terms commonly used in the medical field and they have specific criteria for some conditions. So, yes, I’ve heard them used many times.

But only by clinicians, not supposed patients describing their frown lines.

On a subsequent visit to my doctor, he asked how I was doing with the medicine he'd prescribed on my previous visit. I told him I'd had the prescription filled but that after reading the patient information pamphlet, I decided not to take it. The doctor looked at me with a combination of curiosity and irritation and asked why. I told him I didn't care how many parentheses the warning puts around "rarely fatal," I'm not taking it.
