I remember hearing Laughter in the Rain in 1974 as a young teen and thinking how crazy it was that a woman was singing the line, "I turn to her and she kisses me." I later thought it was wild when I found out it was a man named Neil Sedaka, and not a woman, singing the song. Loved the song, either way.

RIP

So sorry to hear that Neil Sedaka has passed away. What a talent!
He had so many hit songs that used to play on jukeboxes when Bozo was a child clown: Calendar Girl, Happy Birthday Sweet Sixteen, Oh Carol, Laughter In the Rain, Breaking Up Is Hard to Do, among many others.
It's hard to believe that a short, fat, balding sexually ambiguous nebbish was a sex symbol in the 60's.

Was Bozo the only one who found Sedaka's proclaimed heterosexuality a tough sell? Yeah, he was married for 60+ years and had 2 kids, but did you ever hear him speak? his mannerisms and his collaboration with his long-time business partner, the very gay Howard Greenfield, all point in the other direction.

Unlike so many other current stars, Sedaka always took pride in his (Sephardic) Jewish heritage. He donated a lot of his time and money to Jewish and Israeli causes.
Here is a very young Neil Sedaka's incredible rendition of "My Yiddishe Momme" in a 1963 appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show:

Sedaka now joins his first cousin Eydie Gorme in heaven where they will be entertaining the other angels... singing pop songs for an eternity 👼
What a talented family. Neil and Dara and with his cousin the incredible Eydie Gorme. Strong family resemblance.

Did not know they were related.  Loved Eydie Gorme.

Sedaka continued posting video clips on line until very recently, including hosting another popular vlogger inside his lovely residence.

He talked about writing songs and recalled he was surprised how, among his songs, Connie Francis did his Stupid Cupid

He also wrote Where the Boys Are.

He's in the pantheon of the great Jewish Neils... Simon, Sedaka, Diamond, deGrasse Tyson...
