Penguins... the other white meat?

Wildlife conservation efforts in the Patagonia region of Argentina have been so successful that rebounding populations of pumas have found an unexpected new main source of prey: Magellanic penguins.

Pumas largely disappeared from the region about a century ago as they were hunted to near-extinction by sheep farmers attempting to protect the animals from predation. But GPS and camera data now reveal the highest density of the big cat ever recorded.

Not sure how this will go. Penguins on land can't really run away from trouble. Like they have zero defenses. Bad enough they have to deal with sharks, seals, and killer whales while at sea.

Nature has her ways. Penguins came to the continent to nest after the pumas were eliminated. Now that the pumas are back, penguins in a few years will probably leave the continent and go back to the islands where they used to nest before.
