Anybody see this new retelling of Mary Shelley's macabre tale?

I love del Toro's filmmaking style for its theatrical over-the-topness, while consistently keeping the main focus on sensitivity toward the misfits and outcasts within the world he creates. This is no exception. The acting is terrific, as is the gorgeous production design. I've read that, including this, Kenneth Branagh's film stays closest to the novel, with some exceptions. As with all adaptations of the story, check your logic at the door. Casting oh-so-yummy Jacob Elordi as The Creature is probably the highest risk the director took, and in the way he frames the story, from different points of view, it's absolutely got its own payoff.  Anybody here see it yet, and were you delighted or disappointed?

I love Jacob Elordi. So handsome !

I wonder if by playing a monster he wants to show that he's more than just a pretty face in Hollywood.

There's a great deal asked of him in this role. But there is also a portion of his natural beauty present in the character's face, as well as that of his physique. Whether or not that has an impact on how he might receive future offers, time will tell. He's certainly strayed from playing a man whose bath water 💦 is lappable.
