samhexum Posted December 8 Posted December 8 I know it's based on a true story but the first episode played like a badly-written Lifetime movie. If your lead character is dumb enough to think joining the marines will be like going to summer camp, he's too dumb for me to like or root for. And (again, I know it's based on a true story, but) his mother and brother (in his brief screen time) needed to have the word CLICHE flashing across the screen every time they appeared. + MikeThomas and pubic_assistance 1 1
BeamerBikes Posted December 8 Posted December 8 This series brought back a ton of emotions/nostalgia including the ugly parts of life before Will &Grace. Timely, because it feels like we are expected to go backwards in the current US environment. I do wish there’s a Season 2, and they don’t fuck it up. Sullivan needs to come back for Desert Shield/Storm. He’s going to get blue-discharged in the end. There’s no escaping it, but in time of war, we have a habit of looking the other way if you have a skill set in demand. As Admiral King supposedly said something to the effect of, “In times of war, the country calls upon its SOB’s. Here I am”. Paraphrasing.

It gave off a very Malcolm in the Middle vibe, before it got serious. I will admit. samhexum and thomas 2

Also meant to add that I hate the story-telling device of having a character talk to himself with the actor playing both sides of the conversation.

All true....BUT these kinds of characters are based on the fact that these archetypes DO exist in the real world. Anyway....it does get better. However the narration does go on, so if you ( for whatever reason ) don't like a narrating character it may NOT be for you. Just turn off the sound and enjoy the view of Max Parker. 😉 MikeBiDude, thomas, + Pensant and 2 others 4 1
samhexum Posted December 10 Posted December 10 I couldn't even get halfway through the second episode. I just didn't give a @&$! about Cam and had no interest in his story or any of the other characters'. MikeBiDude and + MikeThomas 2

I’m glad you didn’t leave Boots and default to Alf re-runs. The Pitt is a really good show. samhexum and pubic_assistance 1 1

I only hope in the memoir the author better explains his motivations, because in the show him joining the Marines JustCuz isn't believable. We've already seen Private Benjamin. A gay with no college options joining up because there’s no other options that seem better AND his best friend is there? I know a sailor and coastie, who did just that to get out of their dead end min wage life post high school and they didn’t have a best friend joining with them. So in that, I can believe it. 18yos are sometimes that impulsive and listless. Rod Hagen, pubic_assistance and MikeBiDude 2 1
