Rod Hagen Posted May 4 Posted May 4 (edited) Am I missing it, or is there really no discussion of Cole or of Oh, Mary! ? Doesn't seem possible. nytimes.com WWW.NYTIMES.COM nytimes.com WWW.NYTIMES.COM Edited May 4 by Rod Hagen
+ BenjaminNicholas Posted May 4 Posted May 4 I thought we talked about it here, but perhaps we didn't (?) I saw it back at the Lyceum and then again at the Lucille Lortel. While I enjoyed it for the camp, absurdist piece it was, I didn't find it near as wildly groundbreaking as some of the audience around me. Cole is talented, but I would have also loved to see someone like Charles Busch tackle this. Rod Hagen 1

I saw it recently (most likely the last male homosexual in NYC to get tickets), and I honestly loved it. Cole was clearly raised on a diet rich in Carol Burnett, Joan Rivers, and Lady Bunny humor. At times I seriously couldn’t stop laughing. I will say the late-middle aged woman in front of me in the theater, didn’t laugh once, and seemed befuddled at my difficulty in constraining my giggles. It’s been a long time since I laughed so hard I cried, and that happened several times during the show. Expect nothing, and enjoy the ride. AtticusBK Posted May 5 Posted May 5 I saw it at the Lucille Lortel and loved it. The energy in the smaller theater probably swayed my experience — everyone was clearly v excited to be there & ready to be entertained, making it that much more fun. also — love Conrad Ricamora — I’d watch him in just about anything. MenLoveAvenue Posted May 5 Posted May 5 (edited) Cole used to do sketch comedy on YouTube with Jeffrey Self ages ago, and I always loved his Bernadette Peters bits. Recognized him on the street near Times Square maybe 15 years ago (??) in the middle of the day and got to tell him how much I enjoyed his work. He's a sweetheart. Oh, and Conrad Ricamora? from the first time he appeared on HTGAWM, I was smitten. Edited May 5 by MenLoveAvenue add link + Vegas_Millennial, Rod Hagen and AtticusBK 3

Rod Hagen Posted May 5 Author Posted May 5 (edited) I don't know if any of you are old enough to watch CBS Sunday morning (between Murder She Wrote and Matlock), but here is the longer unaired version of the interview. Is they the youngest looking (and acting) 38 year old ever? Edited May 5 by Rod Hagen thomas and AtticusBK 1 1
skynyc Posted May 6 Posted May 6 For the first 30 minutes, I was wondering what the buzz was about. It felt like a P-town drag show just getting laughs by using the C-word and accusing an uptight woman of being a Dyke. But the last half really got me laughing. The scene at Ford's Theater is truly brilliant. Cole is so funny, and it will be interesting to see how the Tony voters go. I also wonder how in this crazy world, the fact that they can support a very GAY play by a non-cis playwright/performer may be a factor. I do find it rather amazing that this was a finalist for the Pulitzer.

Considering the TONY voting block has a majority of gay men, it's not altogether a shocking thing to fathom. AtticusBK 1

I'd think that Titus would find the rhythms of absurdist comedy perfectly. Kimmy Schmidt proved that. Edited May 7 by BenjaminNicholas + ApexNomad 1

d.anders Posted June 19 Posted June 19 I don't know if it's true, but I read that Jinx Monsoon will be taking over the role.
leeper Posted June 19 Posted June 19 Jinx Monsoon is verified. From Playbill News: Two-time RuPaul's Drag Race winner Jinkx Monsoon will join Broadway's Oh, Mary! later this summer, following her current gig in Roundabout Theatre Company's Pirates!
