Will be in NY in May and have one remaining time slot for a show. Should it be Boop, Smash or Just In Time. I realize none of these have officially opened, so at best any pick at this time is a "crap shoot"

Someone recently posted a favorable review of Boop! - that could certainly be an option. Have not heard of Just in Time. I’d probably lean toward Smash if I had to pick, although, I like the creatives behind Boop. Should be fun no matter what you choose. Enjoy!

Boop and Smash both have excellent word of mouth from their previous incarnations (respectively the out of town tryout and NYC workshop).  I’m hoping to see one of them later this week- I will post a review if I do!

I raved about Boop in that thread. I will post on Sunday about Smash. I was fortunate to see Just In Time in the Workshop in a church basement on the Upper West Side. Bobby Darin is a complex role, and Groff is certainly up to it. Interestingly, his early life is what made him a star, and makes Act I a rollicking ride. And then he learned something about himself that sent him into a complete tailspin. The second act was less interesting because it dealt with this. His retreat from the world, his depression and foray into music that no one wanted from him. (Even if it was good.) I see it in a couple weeks and will be curious if they've tweaked the story-telling to make Act II more compelling. That being said, Groff, as usual is tremendous.

Out of curiosity...what else is on your roster for May? Interested to know the "definites" on your list.

Agreed. Though I've not yet seen Boop or Smash, I'd prioritize MaybeHappyEnding or (my favorite musical of last season, now arriving to Broadway) DeadOutlaw...

I saw Maybe Happy Ending and was pleasantly surprised. I enjoyed it very much!!

I see you made your choice, but wanted to mention My First Ex-husband, mainly for the cast.

From Playbill,
The April 23–May 18 company will include Marilu Henner (Taxi, Chicago), Marsha Mason (The Goodbye Girl, Steel Magnolias), Benja K Thomas (Fat Ham, Skeleton Crew), and Julia Sweeney (Saturday Night Live).

The reviews are mixed, but  I would go just for each of the cast members.  They each give a 30 minute monologue.

I listened to a 92Y segment discuss the play on YouTube today.
