Saw it last night.  Wasn't bad.  It wasn't good but it wasn't bad.  I had to close my eyes during the Lady Gaga scene.

20 years.  Holy shit 20 years ago.  How is that possible?  2006.

It was one year later that the iPhone came out and ruined absolutely everything that the characters in the movie say is since ruined.

Not only is The Devil Wears Prada 2 playing at the local theater here in Manila, it’s showing on 4 out of their 8 screens!  I haven’t gone to see it yet because I’m cheap.  Theaters don’t allow senior discount ($7.70 vs. full price of $9.62) during the first week.  Yes, I am that cheap.

PS:  no, escorts in the Philippines do not honor senior discount.

I haven't seen any great reviews. Mark Kermode says it's a talented cast in search of a good story.

Meryl Streep's smug, my-shit-don't-stink face is everywhere. She seems to be over-acting at every turn on this one. So many people seemed hyped for a sequel. I think getting the OG cast together was a win-win no matter what. Where else can the Sex In The City crowd go?

I saw TDWP2 tonight and liked it but certainly didn’t love it.

Pluses:  Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci are all terrific actors, even when given a not-great script.  The beautiful shots of New York, Milan, and the Hamptons take your breath away.  The script managed to work in plenty of laugh-out-loud moments.  I loved the glamour of the runway and all the cameos by fashion icons.  I liked how they made Miranda Priestly more human, less of a caricature like in the first film.

Minuses:  The plot is somewhat cartoonish, and when you discover who the villain is, that part of the script comes off like a middle-schooler wrote it.  I’m just not crazy about Anne Hathaway in this one, liked her much more in the original.  Her love interest is as dull as dishwater, and that whole subplot could easily have been purged without making a whit of difference to the overall storyline.  If you’re going to throw in a superfluous romance, at least cast an actor who’s smoking hot, not someone about as sexy as, well, dishwater.

Yes, I’m glad I saw it, but I also could have done without the sequel being made.  Rewatching the original would have made for a more entertaining evening.

New Starbucks commercial is out starring Adrian Grenier who is not upset at being left out of the sequel 😅

I'm glad he's not included.

His character was childish, unhelpful to his girlfriend and didn't matter at all.

In all fairness, the book->movie was based on the author’s time as Anna Wintour’s assistant, an experience she still suffers PTSD from.  If anything, I’m guessing Streep’s portrayal of Miranda Priestley is far more sympathetic than the real-life Ms. Wintour.  I loved The Devil Wears Prada, can’t wait for the sequel.

Every time I see this part when Miranda calls Andrea fat, I can't help laughing!

Sadly, we're living in an age when women being cunty to other women is considered entertainment. We'll know soon whether the box office holds up. I'm sure the movie will do fine on streaming, even if the reviews are awful.

You think that's being cunty? I guarantee you most folks occasionally have to keep up with gratuitous actions/comments like that not by their boss but by their neighbors, coworkers, classmates, strangers, etc. Sad but true!

I find the "cuntiest" attitudes when Emily (Miranda's first assistant) feels schadenfreude when Andy is humiliated by their boss.

I enjoyed the first one but haven't seen it since it was in theaters.  It's one of those one and done movies (for me). However, I really enjoyed 2. I keep taking to other people who say it is better than the first one as well.  Cinemascore exit polls agree.

One must direct, after a certain age, one's entertainment dollars to the experiences that truly have a chance at some shelf-life in the bank. I mean brain.

Ditto… didn’t hate it, won’t be gushing over it. Enjoyed all the cameos but the whole Gaga thing was too forced.
