Any other tennis fanatics out there? Who are your picks for Indian Wells, men & women? Both feel somewhat wide open. I’d say Carlitos is the men’s fave, but he’s scheduled to meet Djoker in the Qrtrs. I know he’s a bit of a weirdo, but I love Tsitsipas’s game and hope he makes a deep run. Not thrilled that he’s slated to meet my husband - lol - Matteo Berrettini in rd 3. Would also love to see Ben Shelton go deep.

For the women, I’m pulling for Madison Keys to keep it going; hope she and Sabalenka have a rematch in the semis. Bottom half of that draw feels like a toss-up to me, but it’s probably Iga’s to lose imo.

There are so many possibilities for the men, even newcomers (like Tristan Boyer, though he has to play Tommy Paul next), and so many former winners are there again. I just hope it's not the Djoker (I really don't think it will be, and BTW, Andy Murray is looking sexier than he was when he was younger). It was shock to watch Osaka lose to Osorio in the opening round yesterday, in spite of making a few great shots. I hope that Keys can continue to play the way she did in Melbourne.

I am licking my chops in anticipation of a possible Djokovic-Alcaraz quarterfinal.  Novak has won 5 of their 8 matches and 4 of the last 5.  When you’ve won everything there is to win, it’s tough to find motivation, but Novak really shows up for his matches against Carlitos.

I was hoping to watch the 2 players I love to hate — Djoker and Kyrgios — play each other in the 2nd rd, but it looks like Kyrgios’s career might be done. (Karma?)

@Charlie when was Andy Murray ever sexy? 🤢 Tennis has sooooo many hot men - don’t think he was ever among them though.

Draper vs Fonseca and Anisimova vs Bencic today should both  be really good matches.

I never thought he was sexy when he was young, but I saw him in some footage of Djokovic the other day, and he has aged well.

Yesterday's match between Zverev and Griekspoor will be hard to beat for excitement. As I feared, Tristan Boyer didn't stand much chance against Tommy Paul.

BTW, did I hear correctly that Griekspoor is dating Potapova, and that she was in his box during the match? I wonder if he will be in her box for her match with Keys this morning.

When I lived in London during Wimbledon, 50 years ago, Chris Evert and Jimmy Connors were an item, and the British media paid more attention to that than to their tennis scores.

Yes I saw that love match at Forest HIlls US Open when it was still in Forest Hills in 1971 and 1973.  Sat next to Margret Court-Smith watching Chris play and got aroused by the thighs on Jon Kodes. playing on the men's side with a finals loss to Stan Smith in 4 set with a tie breaker in the 4th and then 2 years later John Newcombe in 5.  .    He was actually quite a good player but most of his success happened in the pre Open Era though he won a few majors and several titles in the Open Era.  Doubles was his forte though.

His son was a pro as well but not nearly as successful internationally as his dad.

There are a few player couples at the moment, including Tsitsipas & Badosa, de Minaur & Boulter, and apparently Griekspoor & Potapova. Berrettini and Tomljanovic were an item a few years ago. Of course Maddie Keys just married her coach who used to be on the men’s tour. And who knows what’s going on in the horrible (seemingly abusive) relationship between Rybakina and her coach, who has I think been banned from the tour.

I’m pulling for a Ben Shelton / Carlos Alcaraz semi in the bottom half, and a Stefanos Tsitsipas / Tommy Paul semi in the top. Obvs Medvedev & Fritz are still in it, but doesn’t feel like they have much momentum so far this year. Carlitos is gonna win it again (most likely).

Anyone care that Djokovic is probably going to win his 100th tournament this weekend in Miami? With Jimmy Connors at 109 and Federer at 106, this is one of the very few records he does not hold.

on the other hand, so many teenagers (including Mensik who he’ll play in the final) and other young players making big waves at IW and Miami. The rest of the year and the 3 remaining majors should be interesting.

On to the clay court season…

PS I’d like to be the filling of a Matteo Berrettini / Arthur Fils sandwich 😈

No, I don't care, but the pundits are salivating over this possibility. I think it is more interesting that Mensik is young enough to be Novak's son.

I’m personally not a fan of Djoker’s (though he is amazing),so I’m pulling for the 19 year old.

Very happy to see Sabalenka win the Miami final after losing such tight matches in the Aussie Open and Indian Wells finals. When she plays her A-game, I don’t think anyone can beat her right now.

I’m curious to know what any tennis fans out there think about Tsitsipas hiring Ivanisevic as his new coach. Having fallen out of the top 20 after 7 years (mostly in the top 6), he clearly needs a big change.

Many of the sandwich generation (Medvedev, Tsitsi, Rublev, Ruud) are out of the top 10 now after being major contenders. Sinner and Carlitos have flown by them.

Goran is a world-class coach, but who knows if he and Tsitsi will click.  Stefanos has long needed to cut off professional ties with both parents, yet despite a couple of attempts to replace his father with another coach, Papa Tsitsipas keeps returning to his son’s box time and again.

Even though Tsitsipas maintained a top 10 ranking for almost 5 years, his current live ranking has dropped to an alarming #26.  I hope he moves heaven and earth to make things work out with Goran because he’s hitting bottom, although I’m not sure he sees that.

I think he does realize he’s bottoming out, hence this hire. I’m assume Goran had many asking for his help, so I hope this decision means Goran thinks Tsitsi can rediscover his mojo. While I don’t see him beating Sinner & Carlitos, I think he has a chance against just about everyone else when he’s playing well — he just needs to drastically improve that backhand (return).
I don’t know why I keep holding out hope for him, but he’s too good to be where he is with the results he’s had the past 2 years.

French Open finals this weekend — who are your picks? I’m pulling for Sabalenka in the women’s final. When she plays her A game, no one can beat her. Hoping Sinner wins today over Djoker to set up a final w/ Alcaraz. Love both but hoping Sinner turns the tide.

I was surprised by the outcome of the Boisson/Gauff semifinal after watching the Boisson/Andreeva match.

Andreeva impressed me, but Boisson seemed unbeatable.

I'm looking forward to watching Andreeva at Wimbledon.  Is she the next rising star?

I was pulling for Keyes and Gauff.  A Sabalenka/ Keyes final would have been interesting.  They met in the Aussie final.

That said, I like Gauff.  She beat Keyes and Boisson.  The final should be good.

Sinner beat Novak, so #1 Sinner vs. #2 Alcaraz.  I’m picking Carlos.  By the way, I’m not sad that il bel ragazzo Musetti lost because Carlos was a heavy favorite in that match, but bummed by the way he lost, retiring due to injury. Hopefully he heals up quickly to protect all his grasscourt points from last year.  Whatever part of Lore is hurting, I shall selflessly volunteer to rub it until it feel better.

Unfortunately, because I can’t get a (legal) transmission of the match here in Buenos Aires, I’m left with occasionally checking in on a Spanish YouTube channel to listen to their commentary and watch their reactions.  When Carlos came back from 0-2 sets down to take it into the 5th, the 3 españoles went absolutely apesh!t, might be more entertaining than the match itself.  My pick of Carlos was looking pretty dire a couple of hours ago, but I think he’s the stronger of the two in a 5th set.  We’ll see …

The final was a nailbiter until the 5th set super-tiebreak, whereupon Carlos ran away with it.  But Jannik was up 2 sets to love and was just 2 points away when he was up 6-5 deuce in the 5th.  Amazing comeback from Carlos, he’ll need to sleep for a week after this effort!

The match was so long I actually ate my breakfast and my lunch during the course of watching it. Every time I thought the end was finally near, the player who seemed to be losing at that point made an unexpected comeback. The most amazing point was that neither player took a bathroom break at any time. (I took a couple, and even my dog took one.).

Oh sh!t, because I didn’t watch the match, I didn’t realize that Jannik came so heartbreakingly close to winning.  Besides being up 2 sets to love, in the 4th set Sinner had 3 match points at 5-3 love-40 and also served for the match at 5-4.  Ouch!  Jannik must be shattered, while Carlos has to feel like tennis’s version of Harry Houdini.
