samhexum Posted December 29, 2024 Posted December 29, 2024 (edited) Jimmy Carter has died. He was 100. RIP “I think it's very important for all of the students ... to remember the importance of peace, human rights, and love for one another, and the principles that never change in our lives. Rosalynn and I and our entire family thank you from the bottom of our hearts.” Edited December 29, 2024 by samhexum To maintain the incredibly high standards I have established here Vin Marco, pubic_assistance, liubit and 2 others 2 3
pubic_assistance Posted December 29, 2024 Posted December 29, 2024 James was a good man. I hope history is kind to him. I can't say much without getting into politics about his career...but I think it's ok to say that there are many misconceptions about his Presidency that still linger. His charitable work is without reproach. liubit, samhexum, Marc in Calif and 8 others 3 1 6 1
+ augustus Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 How many people let alone ex-Presidents are swinging a brush or doing carpentry in their 80s and 90s? His work with Habitat for Humanity and his resolve to build homes was frankly quite stunning and admirable. samhexum, liubit, Marc in Calif and 12 others 4 6 5
Ali Gator Posted December 30, 2024 Author Posted December 30, 2024 There will be two memorial services for him - one in GA and one in DC. His body will then be flown to DC for a proper state funeral (that is going to be very sad). Then his body will be returned to GA so he can be buried next to his dear wife who died 13 months ago from dementia. No dates have been made public yet for these services. pubic_assistance 1
Stormy Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 I’m older enough to remember his green signs. A total change from the traditional red white and blue. pubic_assistance, samhexum, Vin Marco and 1 other 1 2 1
viewing ownly Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 170 months ago today, he snagged a line drive foul ball at a Major League Baseball game. I remembered the ENTIRE crowd erupting with excitement after it happened when it was shown on the news. It was in Toronto. I think if the same thing happened the other way around, most everybody in attendance wouldn't know who the person was - myself included! samhexum 1
