Mets had a good day today. Juan Soto home run in his first at bat and Clay Holmes threw three perfect innings in his transition to a starting pitcher.

Good days in February are nice.  What we Mets fans need is excellent days in October and possibly November.

Well the party didn't last long. They first lost Frankie Montas to a lat strain for 6-8 weeks, then they lose bench hopeful Nick Madrigal for "a long time" with a shoulder fracture, and now Sean Manaea out 2-3 weeks with an oblique strain. Yikes.

Three Minnesota Twins players are feeling fortunate after narrowly avoiding a car crash while driving to Monday’s road exhibition game.

Reliever Jorge Alcala was in the lead car and outfielder Matt Wallner and infielder Edouard Julien were driving together behind him when, a speeding vehicle, coming from the opposite direction, drove through a grass median and went flying through the air, barely missing both cars, the players said.

The three Twins were en route to Port Charlotte, Fla., where they were scheduled to play the Tampa Bay Rays, and had just left the team’s spring training site when the incident occurred, they said.

Julien said he was alerted to the near-miss when Wallner, who was at the wheel of their car, began to scream obscenities.

“I’ve never heard Wallner scared like that,” Julien said. “I look up, and I just see a car that’s in a ditch, like in the middle of the road, just going through bushes and going through trees, smaller trees. And all of a sudden, (the car) just jumps up, like six feet in the air. … He almost collided with Alcala, and he almost collided with us at the same time. It was kind of crazy. I saw under the car, too, that’s how far up he was.”

Alcala was a passenger in a vehicle driven by his brother, Juan. He said his brother was driving approximately 40 mph when the other vehicle nearly hit them.

“I saw everything,” Alcala said through an interpreter. “It flew over us. It was something really scary, a little traumatizing. But thanks to God. Every time I leave my home, I thank God for another day.”

Afterward, Wallner pulled even with Alcala’s car as they headed for Interstate-75 and the pitcher tapped his chest as if to indicate his heart was racing, Julien said. Following the car flying past them, Julien said he looked back and didn’t see any signs of an accident.

“There wasn’t any car behind us, so I think he kind of got back on the road,” Julien said of the vehicle that nearly hit them. “I don’t know what happened to him, but he needs to lose his driver’s license.”

With no incident to report, both vehicles continued driving for Port Charlotte.

Wallner played in Monday’s game and flew out to deep right field in his only at-bat, a no-doubt home run on most days that was knocked down by heavy wind. Julien also started in the game, but never had a chance to hit as the contest was rained out after two innings. Following the game, Julien jokingly requested that Twins media report he looked good at the plate, which drew a laugh from his teammates.

Alcala pitched an inning in Thursday’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates, walking a batter and striking out one.

Well, maybe this should be the start of the "2026 MLB season" topic, but the Yankees got a little bit of good news (finally).

Gerrit Cole only had an internal brace done, not full TJ surgery, so he should be back fairly early next season, fingers crossed!

I understand this was Pete Alonso's fall back job after his representation by Boras.

Joey Gallo pitched a no hitter in high school on the same day he took Greg Maddux's daughter to prom.

Gallo has announced that he is attempting to become a pitcher.

New Texas first baseman Jake Berger's mother is a teacher.  She once had a sixth grade student who had two different colored eyes.  His name was Max Scherzer.

Happy birthday to Judge!!!! – @judgejamesaaron on Tumblr

YOU'RE WELCOME!!!

P.S. She broke up with him shortly after.  They only dated 3 months; she calls him 'baseball boy' and said he was a hot mess and the relationship was toxic.

I couldn't find a link to post it, but I saw a video in which she spoke about him sending her a package of pics of them and one of his shirts sprayed with his cologne and a note saying he'd been in therapy.

She wasn't persuaded.

Chisox were shut out seven times in their first seventeen games last year.

They just came within a two out solo home run of winning 8-0.

BREAK UP THE SOX!

The Yanks homered on the first three pitches of the game off Nestor Cortes.  No team had ever done that.  They later added another for the first four-homer inning in team history. They became the first team to homer 7 times in the first 3 innings of a game.

They hit 9 homers in all, one short of the record.  Judge had a double, 3 homers, and 8 rbi.  He's the first player to have 16 total bases in his team's first two games.

Most astonishing fact... after their second game, they are the only undefeated team in the AL.  Who needs Soto & Cole & Gil & Stanton?

Of course, I'm sure any day now Aaron Boone will tell us LeMahieu's really close and looking really good, so that's a relief.

Biggest star of the Yankees series was definitely Jake Bauers…

A .400 batting average, a Homerun, and two scoreless relief appearances.

And that Ohtani bum isn't even close to pitching yet!

Still my favorite baseball player's body.  Ben Rortvedt.    Who says the Rays don't have an UP side?image.png.7d80182f6276b567f16bf6f49fc50909.png

I recognize that mug anywhere. That's ancient swimsuit catalog model Eric Fox's face superimposed, but that is likely Rortvedt's body. I remember Eric VERY well, also appearing in Vista Video flicks (although his modeling contract prohibited frontal nudity, he left nothing to the imagination in print)!

Looking more closely at the photo the head does appear to be photoshopped.    The picture came up when I googled Rortvedt shirtless.  Found the original.  image.png.a94e2565ce5c559158a7c7b4bf6bb59a.png

San Diego sports fans will say in the future "remember when the Padres started out the season 7-0?" They've never done this before, and in typical fashion, are the first team in history to be this far into a baseball season and not have sole possession of first place in their division. Tomorrow's day off will be their ungluing, but I'd love to be proven wrong.

The San Diego Tritons are the new hot basketball team in town - that Michigan game in March Madness was a fun one. The new pro outdoor soccer team has been surprisingly good, and I only recently learned that there's a pro indoor Women's volleyball team, the "Mojo". Evidently, they only have Mojo working for them when they're on national tv - Undefeated 1-0, and abysmal otherwise.
