samhexum Posted November 4, 2024 Posted November 4, 2024 (edited) Good resolution to the Gerrit Cole situation... Per Andy Martino: Brian Cashman says there are no contract extension talks going on with Gerrit Cole, per @martinonyc Cashman says the Yankees were not comfortable adding another year to Cole’s contract, and he agreed to remain on his current deal with four years, $144 million remaining Quote Edited November 5, 2024 by samhexum Because I needed to do something... anything... to keep my mind off the election.
samhexum Posted November 26, 2024 Author Posted November 26, 2024 My thoughts on where Soto winds up if he's really interested in winning consistently, taking into account teams' current rosters, and farm systems: One. Dodgers. Two. Red Sox. Three. Phillies. Four. Yankees. Five. Mets. My thoughts on where Soto winds up, considering all that is really going to matter to him: One. Mets. Two. Mets. Three. Mets. Four.Mets. Five.Mets. Six. Mets. Seven. Mets. Eight. Mets. Nine. Mets. Ten. Mets.
samhexum Posted November 27, 2024 Author Posted November 27, 2024 Dodgers, Blake Snell Agree To Five-Year Deal. They'll be able to keep their payroll low because Sasaki will be so cheap for six years. And the enormous revenue they get from advertising in Japan from having both Sasaki and Yamamoto, as well as Ohtani, will allow them to then resign Teoscar Hernandez and add Corbin Burnes. And still have a lower payroll than the 3rd Place Yankees will have next year. Jeff Passan said it came down to the Dodgers and Red Sox. As it should for Soto, if he actually gave a damn about going to the team that gave him the best chance to consistently win for the next decade.

samhexum Posted December 8, 2024 Author Posted December 8, 2024 I guess @purplekow will be rooting for Baltimore for the next 3 years.

samhexum Posted December 11, 2024 Author Posted December 11, 2024 (edited) An adorable trade rumor for @WilliamM: Story on MLB.com: Nolan Arenado has a no trade clause, but told the Cards he would waive it for only 6 teams: Dodgers, Padres, Angels, Phillies, Mets and Red Sox. viewing ownly Posted December 21, 2024 Posted December 21, 2024 (edited) I noticed that for the first time, Coachella-esque music festivals are planned for the first two weeks of Spring Training. Naturally, for my own tastes, the only day I could go has garbage scheduled from start to finish - not the band Garbage. I wouldn't mind hearing them all day if Fire Town played, too (Garbage w/o the front-woman). Edited December 21, 2024 by viewing ownly
samhexum Posted January 8 Author Posted January 8 Carnivores are in mourning tonight... Bob Veale, best known for being 1/3 of Pittsburgh's meatloaf trio (Veale, Lamb, Moose), has died.
samhexum Posted January 10 Author Posted January 10 I have come up with the perfect trade proposal… Marcus Stroman to Milwaukee, which needs starting pitchers. They offset his 2025 salary, though not his option for next year, by trading Rhys Hoskins to San Francisco, which needs power. San Francisco offsets most of that salary by trading overpriced but effective lefty Taylor Rogers to the Yankees. And Steve Cohen sends $6 million to the Giants to offset the rest of Hoskins' salary because the deal effectively eliminates San Francisco's need for a first baseman, thus cutting Pete Alonso's leverage that much more. Everybody wins, except Pete Alonso and Scott Boras. I think we can all agree that's an ideal outcome.
samhexum Posted February 5 Author Posted February 5 @WilliamM is now a Twins fan... The Twins are going to sign outfielder Harrison Bader, reports Jon Heyman of The New York Post. It’s a one-year deal for the VaynerSports client, with a mutual option for 2026. Bader is guaranteed $6.25MM and can earn another $2MM via bonuses. Bader, 31 in June, is a glove-first guy. From 2018 to 2024, he has been credited with 75 Outs Above Average, the top mark among all outfielders for that span. His tally of 48 Defensive Runs Saved in that stretch is only marginally less impressive, putting him sixth in the majors overall.

+ purplekow Posted February 21 Posted February 21 First Harrison Bader was a great Met. Every time he came to bat or ran out to centerfield, my attention was firmly on him. And I think you all know why it was firmly fixed. Second, I never heard of Walker Hayes before this thread but I like the voice and I like the look. Will be checking out more from him. Third, Dodgers are still the favorites to win it all, with all that pitching and all that hitting. But the Mets could give them trouble in a short series, so it could be intersting year.

Very religious, married 20+ years, sober since 2015 (partnered with an IPA to put out a non-alcoholic beer last year), had 7 kids but the youngest died shortly after birth. His breakthrough hit was called FANCY and he did a Christmas version called FANCY LIKE CHRISTMAS in which the whole family appears.

Andrew Cashner, a terrific San Diego Padres pitcher with lots of facial hair, was traded to the Yankees out of malice many years ago. His face and pitching abilities were never the same.
