samhexum Posted August 14, 2023 Posted August 14, 2023 (edited) Tom Jones, Half of Record-Setting ‘Fantasticks’ Team, Dies at 95He wrote the book and lyrics to a little show that opened in 1960 in Greenwich Village and became “the longest-running musical in the universe.” [Sophia and Dorothy come home after the Shady Pines mother-daughter beauty pageant] Dorothy: The big news is, we beat Gladys Goldfine, right, Ma? Sophia: Ahh, it was a hollow victory. Time has taken its toll on Gladys. She’s not the fierce competitor she once was. Dorothy: Y’know, for the talent section, she was supposed to do a medley from The Fantasticks. She started with “Try to Remember” and… she couldn’t. Becket Posted August 14, 2023 Posted August 14, 2023 Some of my first "feeling funny down there" experiences were watching Tom Jones sing "She's a lady" on some variety show one Sunday night. I remember asking my mother why the singer wiggled so much. thomas and samhexum 1 1

+ Charlie Posted August 14, 2023 Posted August 14, 2023 During my senior year in high school, I was a member of the National Honor Society. We had a faculty advisor who wanted our club to be perceived in our suburban school as culturally cutting-edge, so she arranged for us to have lunch in the city and then go to a matinee of an off-Broadway production of a new musical called The Fantasticks at the Sullivan Street Playhouse. I don't remember anything about it except the performance of "Try to remember," which I couldn't stop singing over and over in my head for days afterwards. thomas, pubic_assistance, Marc in Calif and 1 other 1 1 2
