How many of you pre-ordered Streisand's upcoming memoir ?

Barbra's long-awaited book (first announced in 2016, I believe) has a publication date of November 7, 2023. "My Name Is Barbra" (working title, so far) is clocking in at 1024 pages, according to Barbra  ( yet new info says it's down to 992 pages) . She claims it covers up to her meeting James Brolin in 1995; the rest of the years are an 'epilogue'.

I pre-ordered mine when it was announced earlier this year. It had a retail price of $45, but it has since dropped to $37 on Amazon.  (An audiobook by Barbra is also scheduled for retail, according to different sources - the audiobook is available for pre-order for $62).

How many of us have pre-ordered the book ? And how many copies and formats have you ordered ?

Any Streisand fan who's following along - some good news / bad news:

Good news released today is that STREISAND HERSELF is reading the audiobook of her memoir.  But that's also the bad news, since completests will have to invest in this, too.

Even if you're not a completest - every fan will want this. The audiobook promises 'anecdotes' and 'music' to go along with the reading.   OY VEY!

It will be just interesting to see her perspective on her life period , won't rely upon it to be an honest portrait. She's too cautious, protective and controlling.

I agree - I don't believe it will be too forthcoming.

For years - including just last week on Marty's 94th birthday - Streisand has been lauding Marty Ehrlichman, saying he's been her manager for more than sixty years. Fans go along with her. Any fan or factchecker knows this is not true at all.

In 1975 she publicly axed Marty as her manager and gave the job to her new boyfriend, Jon Peters. Peters was her manager for 10 years - her most lucrative ten years in movies and music, pointing her into a direction where she gained millions of 'young fans' (including me) from such projects as 'A Star Is Born', her duet with Donna Summer, the 'Guilty' album, etc.  He opened her celebrity to an untapped generation of fans which Marty never even attempted to do. She ruled the box office, and she ruled pop radio.

Once she dropped Peters as her lover and manager in 1984-85, she signed on with Sandy Gallin (who was successfully managing Cher, Mel Gibson, Dolly Parton, ONJ in the 80s). She stayed with him for a few years, and then went back to Marty in the late 1980s.  So there's around a 15 year gap where Marty was NOT her manager - yet she seems to forget this. And these were her most successful 15 years.

So how will she explain this away in her book ? What will be 'her truth' ? Will she erase Peters and Gallin from her career completely ?  These are the chapters I'm most interested in, especially since she thanked Marty on his birthday last week for being by her side for 60 years.

Confused.

Why do we care ?

I hope I can clear some confusion for you, and answer your question, as this is a topic of conversation on may different forums I belong to these days :

Because gay men have always been the majority of her fan base.

I can't imagine with the all the gay men on this forum spanning different generations, no one is enough of a Streisand fan where they don't care or have any interest in her memoir, covering her 60 years in show business. That would confuse me

Granted, gay men / boys who are Gen Zers and late Millennials are not familiar with her or her career (if anything, they know her from the 'Fockers' movie, which they watched growing up), so I don't expect them to be interested. But any gay men who are Boomers and Gen X'ers are most likely to be. (I would guess those who are 35 years old and younger may not know her career as well as older people).

I hope that helps you.

You can add arrogant, pompous, and conceited to that list.

Actually I care. I have been looking to line the bottom of my pet parakeet's cage with something different other than the usual shredded newspapers.
Next month will be Nancy's 5th birthday.  I can't think of a more appropriate gift than a 1,000+ page Barbara Stresiand memoir for Nancy to use as her personal toilet.
