Stormy
Since July 1 this porn site says I have to prove my age to watch their videos in order to comply with Virginia law. ( I live in Maryland - not Virginia.). Proof could consist of sending them my picture. That’s not happening. Virginia is apparently NOT for lovers TorontoDrew
Beancounter
Now Pornhub Is Blocked In Virginia, Too | STR8UPGAYPORN STR8UPGAYPORN.COM Here’s a story I found on str8upgayporn. I’m not sure it answers your question but the article states if you have a Virginia IP address you’re subject to Virginia law. Could you possibly have a Virginia IP address yet live in Maryland? Bokomaru
Other states are passing similar laws. Utah and Mississippi so far, and others are working on it. Pornhub is blocked in MS apparently. Meanwhile in The Netherlands (!) XHamster has had to pull 100% of amateur content. And of course there was the fear mongering NY Times Pornhub hit piece a while back which made sex work less safe, less above board, decimating the incomes of sex workers engaging in perfectly legal work (due to Visa/MCard blocking payments in reaction). I’m normally not a Chicken Little type. But… they are coming for your porn. Enjoy it while you can. I’ve started downloading my favorites.
wsc
Yes, Virginia has passed a law requiring some form of government-issued ID to access a porn site, and a few other states either have done so or are considering it. I have no idea how it's supposed to work. I live in Virginia and PornHub has blocked all access from a Virginia IP address. XHamster opens with a screen for you to provide the required age verification but when I click to start the process, nothing happens, so I have no idea how that works, either. All other sites I visit are fine - for now. I think the whole business is bullshit, to protect snot-nosed little brats who know they're not supposed to be on such sites but do it anyway. What's next? Ticketing the 7-11 clerk for not checking ID when a 16-year-old steals a beer? Also, I see this as a state attempting to force adherence to its laws by businesses not in their state, which seems to me to be beyond the states' jurisdiction and interference with interstate commerce. We'll see. When I first connected to the internet, back in the 90s, there was a service called Adult Check. Don't remember if there was a fee (probably was) but you got a password that allowed access to member sites that offered porn. If this trend continues, it's likely some enterprising talent may come in to fill the void. I'm sure the little brats won't break that code. R-i-g-h-t! If you build a better mousetrap, determined mice will just get smarter. Lord, save us from those who want to save our souls - and keep their hands off my porn! liubit, + Lucky and TorontoDrew
