Anyone noticing a drop in massage rates?

Haven't noticed much of a decrease in fees but have been receiving texts from providers I met with ages ago (and not since) asking if I'm interested in a session. No complaints about any of them or the sessions I had with them - just surprised by the out-of-the-blue contact.

Huh. I’ve noticed an uptick in solicitations from masseurs as well lately. I’d chalked it up to the lead up to Pride but now I wonder

I mentioned these hot guys earlier. Their rate used to be $200 on MF and "ask" on Rentmasseur.

Now their ads on MF are gone (I hear that the price to post an ad there costs a LOT, one more reason to hate MF), and they quote $160 on RM.

Recession hitting after all?

I’m not saying let’s not go to them since their prices are so high … so that they lower their rates - more so the new faces.  But I’ve subconciously been doing that (Inflation is real, etc.  i know).

I’ve told the handful of regular RMasseurs that I keep in contact about the new faces and even the old (not by age, in RMasseur profile years) about these prices  …. with the market being so profitable in LA but oh so many competition.  Hence the uptick of they were just doing the basic extras to more and more (verging on escort work).

(i’m not making sense…i need more coffee)

But, realistically, sex work/massage work on RMasseur <to be honest, a masseur who does just the extras automatically falls on this category  … for me> should not be these high of a price.  I’m in Los Angeles but the “market” affords it to be at this rate.

I stay very busy, and my costs are only going up. Taxes, general costs of living, and business expenses are all higher in California than in Texas. I will also be commuting daily from my home to a business location, about 45 mins each way (vs living on site in TX).

Nobody is happy about higher prices, no matter how slight, and I know only a percentage of the market is interested in hiring me at any price - BUT let’s say you were a client interested in hiring me. What do you think about the proposed changes below?

I’m particularly interested in your opinion if you are located in the San Diego area.

Proposed Pricing:

Massage

$80 / 30 min (vs $75)

$150 / 60 min (vs $140)

$210 / 90 min (vs $195)

$260 / 120 min (vs $240)

^add to any massage:

  $40 / 15 min hot stones (vs $35)

Body Care

$50 / 30 min body scrub (vs $45)

$70 / 45 min body trimming (vs $65)

(body sculpting removed from menu)

Cuddle Therapy

$80 / 30 min (vs $65)

$150 / 60 min (vs $120)

Full Service (no change)

$300 / hr

$500 / two hours

Escort Service (no change)

$1,000 / five hours

$2,000 / overnight

$5,000 / weekend or (2) days

$1,000 / additional day after (2) days

$10,000 / week

Notes:

Escort service is all inclusive; companionship, massage/spa, and full service, any combination.

Massage pricing is consistent for therapeutic, sensual, and erotic style massages.

Or more like an overlap.

I see a LOT of escorts advertising on massage sites and they have NO idea how to massage

At least half of them have the decency to UNcheck the "Therapeutic" option on their profile.

Although some dont even have an intention of massaging you. I asked one fellow about his therapeutic massage rates and he answered it was $400. I countered that maybe he didn't understand me..I was asking about MASSAGE. He answered that it was all the same rate for one hour.

So I'm guessing his "massage" was going to be a lot of lotion and rubbing his dick in my face. 🙄

A local escort who's also a friend of mine told me this week 4 guys in two different cities contacted him about a "great erotic massage including fucking...."

You make a good point, lines are  blurry nowadays but one thing is massage (especially a therapeutic one) and other thing is escorting.

If what a person really wants is a massage maybe the looks shouldn't matter so much but his education, experience, etc.

I’m glad you made this point. This recent crop of “masseurs”, over the past 5 years have found the magic formula to scam the naive…. These are the guys who want the RATES of an escort, but don’t want to perform the DUTIES of an escort.

So these guys ( usually young, good looking with nice bodies) get on Rentmasseur, (with zero massage skills) advertise “just ask”, rates (usually starting around $200-$300). Once  they find their lustful sucker, the poor chap ends up with baby oil slathered over him for a few minutes which follows with  a mediocre tug, while the masseur shakes his dick in his face, calls this an “erotic” experience, collects his cash sending the victim on his way, snookered…..and waits for his next victim.

Be careful when hiring, and pay attention to the signs. Don’t be lured by a hot profile.

In other words, remember to use your big head, don't let the other one take over 🙂

I've always believed travelling masseurs need to know the market they are travelling to. In other words, a NY masseur travelling to my area (Providence) will have a tough time charging his 'NYC' prices in this location, and filling up his schedule. Either he lowers his prices to fit the market, or skip this location when travelling. Otherwise, his potential clientele will be skipping him.

I've noticed, with inflation, and high prices for general goods there's less money in my pocket for expensive hobbies. My frequency for massages is down about 80%. Masseurs can try all they want to establish $200 as the new norm but it's a supply/demand economy for a non-essential service.

Sigh.  But, we do have the takers.  I do, from time to time. Sigh. 😂 sorry y’all.  But I am doing my best not to encourage them with the $180-$200 range — which really means I have to use my noggin from time to time.

It turns out that that the two masseurs from Tampa that I referenced above have reduced their rates to $160 for therapeutic only. If you want erotic it is still $200 for an hour and $300 for 90 minutes. Oh, well, I am still holding the line. I can get top quality therapeutic massage for $100 and I actually PREFER to be massaged by someone I don't find attractive in that case.

There is a lot of information available on rates for female providers, for example $40 seems to be the going tip for a happy ending. $140 for intercourse. Somewhere in between for everything else. That could go up to $160 for an especially great provider, but often not. I apply that thinking to the spas in NYC. The beautiful men seem very happy at a $40 tip for my massage ending on a happier note. Some will let you give them a blowjob for $80. I've never gone beyond that but those seem to be fair and welcome tipping amounts. Granted it's NYC. In Washington D.C. where I live part of the year, female happy ending is $40 but from a male provider you're expected to pay more. Supply and demand I suppose.

I've been wanting to seek out a male provider in the DC area but I don't want to insult them with a low tip. Hence my question.

Honestly, it depends on the guy. It's really hard to find a male provider who is legit, let alone one who does extras. For the massage itself, $70 is about as much as I'm willing to pay because I can get a great female massage for less than that. Extras.. Like I said in my message about rates, more than $50 and I am better off waiting till I get home. It's really a shame that getting a massage from a man is still seen as homoerotic or somehow less masculine for straight men. There was a time when men were routinely giving other men massages.

I can see that inflation may have had an effect on rates going up post-Covid.  But I see a “legit” provider in Phoenix for $100 for 90 and he does stretching, hot stones and keeps it professional.  His rate did increase $40 from pre-to-post Covid.  I had another legit who pivoted to escort massages and I quit seeing him as his rates skyrocketed to $300 for a legit massage.

A few here and there, but generally speaking they're all going with the new base amount, which for SFL appears to be $160MIN for an decent massage (if you're lucky).  Many of the newbies are starting off with $200 as the low, which is becoming supper frustrating because you have absolutely no idea what you're going to get.

I saw a new ad yesterday and he was hot so I went with it.  You'd figure I'd learn by now, yet here we are.  When I got there he tells me it's going to be a holistic, interactive experience, where we would become in-tune with each other's energy, blah, blah, blah.  It all sounded great but the interactive part was just for the introduction, I guess, because the massage was done in complete silence, no guidance, no breathing instructions, definitely no energy exchange.

When we were done I told him the massage was very good, similar to the spa massage I got last week, that I paid $100 for.  I took full responsibility for not doing my due diligence beforehand and asking questions and told him I figured for $160 that there would be something special, perhaps sensual...which apparently there was an option for, for a little more. 😠

I'm usually a go with the flow kinda guy and prefer to let things happen organically, but if NOTHING happens, I'm annoyed.  Especially at a higher price point.

Moral of the story, ask all your questions beforehand.

Traveling guys may differ from normal. They tend to have a captive audience depending on where they’re going and how long they’re staying. If few good options are normally available in a given market, that can drive up demand, and with it, prices.

When I travel, I keep my prices constant and have no lack of appointments filling my schedule from morning to night. At least twice as many same day requests I have to turn down because I’m booked. I could easily charge more based on that high demand but I prefer having plenty of others ready and willing to snatch an appointment when someone else cancels or no-shows. Pricing is not a barrier to seeing me as much as availability is, so I fill in those spots very quickly with same day requests. Suddenly people get a lot less picky about start time when there’s one spot left, take it or leave it.

$200+ for (1) hour of *actual* massage is bonkers. At that rate bracket, I would expect a lot of extras, rip-off schemes, unskilled massages, time shorting, or other unprofessional shenanigans. I charge $195 for 90 mins and it’s truly an excellent massage.

My 60 min massage is $140. A lot of other pro masseurs hover between $120-$160. Much more than that and something is not right. Either that, or you’re getting much more than massage and you’re paying for it. Which is fine by the way, it’s just not fair to compare with regular massage sessions. It’s a different service. Apples and oranges.

I acknowledge local markets differ. NYC, LA, SF and others will naturally be much higher across the board.

I get that Simon.

BUT (always a but lol)

Some offer heated beds, fancy this fancy that but that ONLY if you goto them. So if they are traveling theoretically they should be charging less

Also with travelers when I ask price they quote me higher than website. When I point that out, they say "oh thats my travel price"

To which I reply OK but why isn't documented on their page/

I hope this is making sense.  I get where you are coming from, but see it from the customer perspective
