WHY IS FRESH MEADOWS SUDDENLY A HOTBED OF CRIME?

Police from the 107th Precinct in Fresh Meadows are looking for three suspects who used a stun gun on a man before stealing more than $500,000 worth of jewelry from him on the morning of Wednesday, July 23.

Police say the 39-year-old victim was walking to his vehicle, which was parked near the intersection of 73rd Avenue and 180th Street, when two strangers approached him, wearing facemasks, hats and reflective vests, at around 10:10 a.m. One of the men pulled out a stun gun and discharged it at the victim and then threw him to the ground, police said Friday. The second suspect joined in to forcefully remove the victim’s jewelry.

Cookies N’ Cream, a Westchester-based gourmet dessert shop with humble beginnings, is opening at 64-62 Dry Harbor Rd.

The FDNY battled a ferocious four alarm firethat ripped through seven one-story commercial buildings on Dry Harbor Road in Middle Villagejust after 10:45 p.m. on Monday night.

The fire, which is believed to have started at 64-76 Dry Harbor Road, sent six firefighters to a local hospital with minor injuries.

64-76 is the corner store; 64-62 is the 7th in the strip, so the dessert shop was probably burnt out and the Filipino restaurant was probably spared but damaged.  There's actually a pizzeria between the restaurant and the dessert shop.
