Hmmmm... I would like to take an Escort point of view on the RENTBOY site scene. I have had continued problems with this site and wondering if other Escorts find this site dissatisfactory. Clients are welcome to offer their responses. I have encountered an inability to update my ad as well as accrued ad posting expenses without permission of charges and wonder if other Escorts have encountered the same dilemma?

Tyger!

Hey Ty.. There was awhile back, a discussion about "Rentboy" and the way they handle their Business with the "Working Guys"..

Possibly the more "PC Educated" reading this, can find the Past Discussion. Apparently you are not alone with Probs dealing with Rentboy in your Advertising!

It would appear Biz in "Working Guy" Advertising is So Good for them, they really aren't Concerned in THEIR SERVICE to individual Customer's..Who definitely are Paying BIG BUCKS to Advertise!

The Guy's are Falling all over each other, to Advertise on the First Page in NYC! LOL :p :P :p

>I have encountered an inability to update my ad

Are you using Firefox? I had the same problem until I tried it in Internet Explorer and then it worked fine. I think rentboy has excellent customer service - much friendlier and more service-oriented than the leading competitor listing site.

Hey Tyger,

I hear your problem, I even hear you screaming ... :o

If you use Internet Explorer don't forget to disable Norton AntiVirus, Norton Internet Security or any fire wall you have installed on your machine for the time you change your Rentboy ad.

If you're using Safari you won't be able to update your ad at this time. I've been talking to Jeff about this issue for about 2 years. The webmasters fixed the problem for a short time, but only for a short time. :-(

Firefox works just great! :)

Hmmmmm... nope... use internet explorer. Took one month for those guys to get back to me, writing back and forth and still no resolve... was told they would not refund me for the platinum ad I was not able to run. Eventually they got around to saying they would give me one month free so I could try again and promptly billed me for a "classic" spot at the platinum price. Grrrrrrrr~ So.... $200+ and still no way to update my add. I'll have to look up "customer service" again in the dictionary to see if my definition might be wrong.

From the hirers point of view rentboy is one of the best, sorry to hear it isn't from the lister's point of view. One of the reasons its among the best is that practically all their ads are current and their listings really are by city, so I'm surprised to hear about your probs. For contrast Men4rentnow, has maybe 50% dead links and displays someones ad for a city they visit on occasion, all the time, whether they are actually there or not. I must say though I think it is New York City centric, and certainly US centric, not sure its the best for the rest of the world

Out of curiosity one day, I decided to explore the "platinum" (or whatever they're called) ads that are on every frigging page at M4RN. You can start from just about anywhere and hit a dead ad in 3 clicks.

So they're annoying, AND useless. LOL

I certainly agree with the comment that RentBoy is New York centric. However, even with that said, I who live on the West Coast, look there first and then check this site to see if guys I'm interested in have any reviews.

Now please don't anybody get bent out of shape regarding what I'm about to say. One thing I like about http://www.maleescortreview.com is that it has a section entitled Escort Profiles as well as one for escort reviews. This allows the reader to use the site as both a listing site and a review site -- good idea!!!

Sorry Ty...There's a little "In Joke" around here, that apparently isn't going away, as Promised with Apologies, while you were Traveling and not reading the Forums...

Anyway... You are not alone. The Best World Traveler, with "One Name"...Michael Vincenzo brought this Working Guy Problem up a while ago. I'm sure some remember it. So you are not alone in your thinking..

Happy New Year Big Guy!..

I also agree that Rentboy tends to be New York Centric. However it can prove useful fairly often for other cities all the same. I recently spent Thanksgiving week in Mexico City and through Rentboy as well as a recommendation from another client who uses this messageboard, I hooked up with a wonderful escort there, Danyell. I saw him four times in four days and will happily see him again when I return. I just submitted a review to Daddy, and I assume it will be posted reasonably soon.

>I have encountered an inability to update my ad

In September I updated an ad on rentboy at the request of an escort. The first time I tried, the site let me enter all the required info, but then would not accept it despite repeated attempts. I tried again 8 hours later, and it went through without a hitch. Possibly software issues? Or the bandwidth/service-provider issues that used to plague the site from a user perspective?

I too tried to place an ad recently on Rentboy.

They sent me an immediate response telling me I'd have to fill out a form, fax my CC info(including security number) and fax my driver's license info.

FUCK THAT!

I'm not passing all that information out to an escort ad site...nuh, uh lol

Thanks Louis,

That's why I'm a rear-end alignment specialist<wink>

But I was really irked by the lack of information they gave me as to why I couldn't post my ad.

My credit cards were good enough for Christmas shopping online but not for Rentboy...beats the shit out of me?!

Have a good one,

Far be it from me to defend Rentboy, but it sounds like they're trying to protect against chargebacks.

Chargebacks (refuted charges) can get a merchant account cancelled and leave a website unable to accept credit cards.

Sure, you can buy that 50" LCD TV at bestbuy.com with just a credit card #, but I'll bet they don't have the chargeback problem Rentboy has (because they have a good return policy).

How many guys stupidly create Rentboy ads and then realize that they'll end up having sex with old geezers like me and then try to cancel the ad (and the charge)? Only Rentboy knows, but I'd bet the number is high.

It's in Rentboy's best interest to have as much proof on file as possible. It could be the difference between keeping the business going and closing up shop.

I never though I'd defend Rentboy.com either, but I have to admit being

VERY impressed by some recent customer service. I mistakenly renewed a

travel ad and tried to switch it to the new city I was travelling too -

a mistake, as each travel ad apparently is unique to that city, due to

placement rates and such. Anyway, most sites would have just taken my

money and made me open a new ad in the city I was actually travelling

to. Instead, after only one email, Rentboy apologized for the

inconvenience, deleted the incorrect ad, posted the correct ad and gave

me 1/2 off as a long time subscriber.

Even sent me a follow up email to thank me for my business.

I know that the site isn't perfect, but I was/am very impressed.

*shrugs*

I've always liked Rentboy. Brandon Baker and his crew do a great job of keeping the site in the headlines, while the layout and design is pretty easy to navigate. I also enjoy that RB does a good job of sponsoring various events in the gay community and seems to do it all with a very tongue-in-cheek attitude.

Big thumbs-up to Rentboy.com from this escort.

Wow! Well... that was nice... they charged me once for a platinum spot I could not update, again for the same after offering me a "couresty" month free for problems and then gave me a classic placement... but only after charging me again for a platinum spot.

Very NOT bravo~
