Rent Men Data Collection

Anyone else get a message about Rent.Men changing their data collection policies? Here's a link to it. I thought it was a bit concerning that apparently Rent.men collects passport information, physical identity and other things that are kind of weird for them to keep in my opinion.

Is this normal data collection or something to be concerned about? In light of what we've heard about escorts being denied entry into the US because they've had Rent.men profiles, it's definitely concerning to me.

I think it's mostly for EU compliance, since they require photo ID with a note to validate certain transitions for providers (to avoid charge backs).  Since they collect the info, the EU requires a policy and disclosure.  They don't request info from clients except for certain transitions, but the policy probably had to cover the entire site.

I'm not particularly concerned.

I noticed a ton of sites I visit all of a sudden with pop up notices saying their privacy policies have changed. Some law must have went into effect in the new year.

I've noticed the same. Chaturbate is requiring performers to update their age verification, and they're using an AI biometric age-verification tool. You upload the front and back of your government ID through your device's camera, then an oval pops up and you center your face into the bubble. The AI then analyzes your face.

Interestingly, the day after I verified my age with Chaturbate, I reserved a rental car with Sixt rental car. I got an email that invited me to "save time at pickup, verify your driver's license." I thought that sounded appealing, so I logged on, and found they are using the same type of process as Chaturbate, with the photo of the ID and the facial biometric scan.

I'm guessing this is an implementation of the EU Digital Services Act. Here's some info:

Sure, I can see this for porn sites, but why the rental car? Oh yeah, you need to be 25 to rent a car. Sixt is a German company, and the Digital Services Act is not specific to porn. As the article says, the DSA applies to all digital services that connect consumers to goods, services, or content.

More and more various Governments are using Metadata to track your every move and they want documentation to assure this activity they've tracked is indeed the person they claim to be. The official explanation is cutting down on sex trafficking and terrorism. (Any further comments I might make about the subject of metadata collection would need to be moved to the politics section.)

Thanks for the information. Yeah I think the metadata thing is a bit scary, TBH. I would probably be very careful about putting my face pictures on RM actually. I don't as a a client obviously, but if I would discourage providers from doing the same even if it probably hurts their business a bit. I have no problem sharing pictures off the platform.
