Hey guys,

After some years of not being able to visit the States, I am very glad to say that I am FINALLY going to NY on the first weekend of May. YAY!! Since I haven't been in NY for more than ten years, I am at a total loss and know nothing.

I want to ask you guys, where do you stay when you go to NY? Which hotels are affordable, clean, with reliable internet access, and more importantly, in a good location to walk and enjoy the city. I have been looking at hotels.com, expedia.com and the like, but it is all soooo huge and so confusing that I can't make my mind.

Also, (and this is not for escorts alone) what do you recomend to do in the city? I will have lots of free time and would love to go to the fun places... I am planning to go to the Met to take in at least one of the productions. (My top options are "Faust" and "Tosca".) Anyone has any reccomendation as to which one might be a better production? (I like both equaly.)

But when it comes to fun... plain ole fun I am absolutely clueless.

I guess I will have to play it by ear, and allow the tide to take me where it wants... I will just buy the opera tickets and let the rest unfold as it will.

Thanks for your help, and all I have to say is that I am very excited to visit your country again! I was indecisive about posting this here or in escorts travels or what... but i hope this is the right place.

And as a little town latino visiting the big city, I have to announce in a corny way:

"Start spreading the news... I am leaving today....." Argh, my voice is not like Frank's... ;(

Thanks again... and see you soon! }( :9 :7

The "Tosca" is the old Zeffirelli production that the Met has done for years--standard Zeffirelli, very traditional and grand. I saw Maria Guleghina sing the role there a few years ago and she was wonderful; however, the May performances rotate among several singers (Aprile Millo is doing only once performance, on May 19, perfect if you like a really old-fashioned Italian diva). Marcello Giordani is doing all the Cavaradossis in May; I find him boring, but that may be personal taste. The "Faust" is a new production, and I haven't seen any reviews. I saw Roberto Alagna sing it (last year?), and he was better than I expected. Soile Isokoski's French is pretty good for a Finn (I saw her in "La Juive"), but she didn't strike me as a natural for Marguerite; Veronica Villaroel is doing a couple of the May performances. The always hot Dmitri Hvorostovsky is Valentin. At current Met prices, seeing both productions probably would be stretching it, but I'm not sure which one would be a better choice.

Midtown Manhattan

By "escort-friendly" I am not sure (since you do not get around to asking the question in your actual post) that you mean a hotel you can escort in, but as someone who has traveled to nearly all of the large cities in this country and worked in nice hotels, I do not think you need to worry about that aspect and should just go for convenience, affordability and the elements which are important to you. In my case, I want a gym, so I can at least do cardio, high speed internet access, space and a comfortable bed.

I did some quick searches (thanks to DSL) and found Hot Wire with three star hotels no lower than 220 a night for a four night stay in mid-May, and likewise similar on Expedia and Orbitz. This was checking the Theater district and Midtown Manhattan areas. Lower prices could be had in Lower Manhattan (the financial district) and you can find some really great hotels to stay there for a bargain price, especially if your stay includes the weekend. However, not all the subway stops are open, it is hard to find food and places to eat on the weekend and at night, and there is not much to do near by at night, and while I felt safe, it does not necessarily looks it.

Orbitz has a great section on their web site where you can look for Hotel Deals, such as the Broadway Plaza hotel (which has high speed internet for $9.95 a day), for $109 a night; however, these "featured prices" are not always available, as I discovered on a recent trip to Miami.

In any event, keep shopping around, rates sometimes change, and you might consider Priceline.

You definitely want to stay in Manhattan when you go, however. Enjoy the trip!

Wow, guys!

All I can say is thank you. I have been receiving so much information that I am overwhelmed by it. Thanks for your responses here and for the many helpful e-mails. So much knowedgeable advise!

Now I have narrowed down my options to two hotels that look great. The Edison, that many people recommended, and The Beacon. Both of them look well located and clean and nice. So i guess it all depends on availability.

Also, all the mails that I have been receiving about entertainment, what to do, what to see and who to meet... (Thats my favourite part!)

So thanks again to all of you guys. I have the feeling now that my trip is organized and I know exactly what I will do.

The only thing that I need to find now is a gym around the area that accepts drop-ins reasonably cheap.

And by the way, Charlie, I will miss Mr. Hvorostovski... I am in the wrong weekend! ;(

Anyway, I really hope that I will meet you all on the streets of the city... so if a latino guy fondles you without asking for permision, it is very likely that might be me. :9

I have the feeling that all I have to do is get my ass there and enjoy the ride...

Thanks again!;-)

RE: Gym in NYC

Many gyms belong to this group called IHRSA and offer a program that they call IHRSA PASSPORT. If a guy belongs to a gym that participates in this program back home, he can go to another participating gym in the city he is visiting.

I belong to 24 Hr and Bally's in Texas, and there are several gyms in NY that allow me to workout at a discounted daily rate. Best value is the club at the Sheraton Manhattan for about $10/day. Most of the NYSC gyms allow you to workout for around $15.

Check http://www.healthclubs.com for a list of gyms. Just be sure to pick up a guest card at YOUR gym before you leave town.

Happy Lifting. :)

  • 2 weeks later...

Hey again guys!

I am glad to report that I am now in NY city, and have been here for a few days now.

Even if the weather has been in the cold side, I have to tell you that I have had the most amazing time so far. The perfect setting for romantic crazy adventures, NY is now among my top three in the world. (I didn't remember it being so fun from when I came ages ago, but -again- I was an underaged kid back then.)

Something that is shocking about this city, is that even if they have the best food, the best fun, the best music, theater, and so on (I could go on forever) the city manages to make it an ideal setting to be with people.

The company that I have been encountering here has been not only fun and engaging, but tremendousy challenging in many ways. Fun!

I am having the feeling that I am going to be addicted to this city...

Thanks again for that much advise.

Hope to bump into you on the street! (So if a tall latino fondles you... smile, it might be me) :9 }( :p

Well, if Juan did move to the Sheraton NY he wasn't taking anyone's advise. I found the Sheraton NY to be one of the least "escort friendly" hotels in NY, or anywhere I have visited.

Last summer, I asked my "guest" to come visit me one evening. He called me from the lobby, I gave him my room number and he was stopped by the guard at the elevator who asked for his room key.

When he couldn't produce a room key, he called me back and I went downstairs to get him. We were again stopped at the elevator and told that my guest had to "register". He was asked to produce a photo ID for the desk clerk, which he had left back at his apartment.

He took a taxi back to his place, got the ID and returned to the hotel. He showed the ID to the front desk, they added his name as a guest to my room, and then we both headed once again for the elevator, where we were again stopped and asked to produce the room key and his ID which were both noted in the log book.

I have crossed that hotel off my list, and I stayed over 50 nites in NY last year alone. In my opinion, one which I stated to Juan before his visit, the Edison is a much better choice and value for NYC lodgings.

Sorry to hear Tommy. I guess it must be my "Good Looks" and "Subtle BKLYN Charm". Because "BKLYN" walked into the Sheraton NY'er 52/53.. got on the elevator, a very Helpful "Hotel Employee" asked me what floor I wanted...42ND Plzz.. The rest can be read in my... Up coming Review! IMHO.. it is a very Nice Hotel. AND "JT" doesn't do Hotels in General...The Bed was extremely Comfortable, with alot of Little "White on White" Pillows, Which Juan "Looked Hot" laying on NAKED! LOL :+

Haven't had experience lately at the Sheraton, but at some other NY hostelries-if thats a word- it makes a big difference what time you are inviting someone up. Since 9/11 quite a few hotels ask for keys, particularly late at night. My normal theatre district hotel has the lobby on the 22nd floor, they generally ask for room key or ID to go up to the lobby but "meeting someone for drinks in the bar" works, and once you're up in the lobby the rooms aren't a hassle until 11; after 11 they check you in the lobby for a key to get up to the room. As far as major hotels in theatre district the Marriott doesn't check, but their elevator system is so bad and overburdened its still a hassle. Westin and Crowne Plaze didn;t check either, but its been awhile since I stayed there. On a lower economic plain BW President has not checked either

Guest nycjockguy

Hey JT-

Sorry you misconstrued my question to Juan about the edison -- it was intended as sly, ironic and insider-y.

I well know how Juan and the delicious Kevin liked the Edison. I was privileged to visit with them at the E and had a later solo with K at the Sheraton.

How did I like the Edison?

Errr.... uhms....

You should be called NYC jocking-guy }( :p :7

As you all now know, I did switch to the Sheraton, which I found friendly, clean, surprisingly great value, and very cozy and manly in its decor...

I loved the Edison's lobby and design, and I loved to know that the bed in which I slept was perhaps used by a hot Gaity guy in the past... (That's how we groupies think.) But I personally need a little more room to manouver. (It can get crowded in such a tiny environment, as NYCjockguy can attest to.)

At the Sheraton I even asked for lots of towels, and explained that I was planning to have the real NY ole fun... and the handsome Carlos in the front desk just smiled and said: "Lots of towels for your room, sir." With a sly smile on his sexy Brazilian face.

Maybe I was just lucky. (That I was)

But... man, I loved NY!!!

The food, the city itself, men and women, the entertainment, museums, shopping.... can;t get better than that.

Thanks for asking, anyway. :p

Thanks for the advidse.

I saw the Faust, and I really enjoyed it.

Not only I had the best company that I might have asked for, I love the music, and the sorroundings.

I loved Mr. Pape, with his huge, muscular legs, his naked suit, and his always amazing voice... he was not only the hottest, but the singer I liked the most. La Villaroel was really good... and I was trully dissapointed to miss Mr. Hvorostovsky. x( The production was amazing and in the verge of over-the-top-kitschy, and amazing... fine balance.

Thanks a lot Charlie, I hope one day we will be able to enjoy some fun entertainment together. (Perhaps Turandot? oh, but I am hoping to see Turandot with another New Yorker... let's see how it goes.)

I was in NYC a few weeks ago and spent 3 nights at the Sheraton NY Towers. I had a 'guest' each night 2 once night, actually) and no one was stopped or hassled. I noticed that most of the time the security staff paid little attention to whether peoople had keys in their hands.

I did spend one night at the Sheraton Manhattan - just across the street - and my 'guest' forgot the room number. He had my name but they refused to look up the room number for him . Luckily he still had my cell phone number. (This place also charged me for outside calls to retrieve my voicemail messags from *their* system.)

Glad you enjoyed Faust. Rene Pape not only has an incredible voice, I agree with you that he is also hot. His picture is on the cover of the April 2005 issue of Opera News, in dark glasses, leather jacket, black leather gloves, and tight jeans, posed like a hustler in a back alley--yummy!
