Here's a good question for both clients and escorts:

Where do you advertise in print in your hometown or when you travel? Also, does this publication list the escorts on line?

One of the questions the clients often seem to have is where can they find local talent when they travel to a new city without having to go through either escort reviews on this site or escort listings on other sites which are outdated, incorrect or otherwise less than helpful.

I would answer my own thread, but I will let others have a crack at it first....

Isn't this one of those "it depends" situations? :7

No two cities are alike. I can see a guy doing just fine in LA or SF only using website advertising. In Chicago, an ad in Gay Chicago Magazine is almost a must.

As with any other form of advertising, you must go where your likely clients are likely to see your advertising. And that will vary depending on what's available from city to city.

Of the more pedestrian stores I prefer in New York, I love Macy's in Herald Sqare and I love Bergdorf-Goodman on 5th Avenue.

I'll be there tomorrow and I am going through each with a megaphone asking a similar question, except about the stores. I'm also planning on handing out questionnaires for customers in each store to fill out so I can help spread the word with my megaphone in their store.

If you wanna join me, email me and I'll tell you when and where we'll start.

Well, Louis Vuitton is a little high-faulting' for a Lil ole country boy like me, but if it's that pink one with the rhinestones that I, uh, uh, saw in the catalog (yeah, that's the ticket) and if you wear a pink feather boa and nothing else, maybe we'll start at Barney's...the gals at BG might be a tad jealous, ya know...

(for the censorship committee's edification, I only edited formatting.)

I'm a purchaser rather than a service provider, but, I'll jump in with an answer about NYC.

There are two weekly magazines that are "must read" for NYC - HX and Next. They both come out on Friday and are available in newsboxes along 8th Ave, some along 7th Ave, and in most gay businesses and clubs.

Generally, Next has a larger listing of escorts than HX. Also, Next posts escort ads on its website. I just checked the HX website. To get to the personals section a login name is required. I don't know what it takes to get a login name - i.e., whether or not there is an assciated cost.

For anyone in NYC, I'd suggest checking out both HX and Next. If there is a choice of one rather than the other, I'd suggest Next. The majority of ads in HX are also in Next, but, there are some occasional exceptions.

The local gay paper, Outlook, doesn't accept escort/massage/adult services ads, although a statewide gay paper does. The local daily, The Columbus Dispatch, unlike most major dailies, does run escort ads. I don't advertise much in the Dispatch anymore because they charge nearly 2x the regular classified ad rate which amounts to nearly $400 a month if you run every day. There are a couple of weekly alternative papers, The Other Paper and Columbus Alive, in which I advertise regularly. The Alive ads can be viewed online.

Los Angeles

Frontiers remains the best source for currently advertised escorts and body workers in Los Angeles, as it is the one most clients see, it is available nationally in a number of gay and lesbian bookstores, and there is ready access to the web classifieds, which includes all current photographs AND display ads. The link provided by Boston Guy shows a "login" place on the upper right, but anyone can view the classifieds without logging on.

However, [/i] IN Los Angeles[/i] magazine also has a number of massuers and "models" listed, with a number of display photographs, which all appear on the web(http://www.inmagla.com/index/index.cfm), without any access or log in needed. A reason for the fair amount of photographs instead of text classifieds, is primarily because the cost to advertise on IN LA is far less than Frontiers. Notwithstanding this price advantage, most escorts and body workers still predominantly advertise in Frontiers because that still draws the most clients.

I have friends, both escorts and body workers, who advertise in the local alternative newspaper, the LA Weekly, for sensual massage, often to heterosexually or bisexually self-identified men. Obviously, a number of guys in Los Angeles, including a number of "non-professional" escorts, also frequently list on Craigs List. However, as has been discussed a number of times on the board, these are often not guys who you can pre-arrange meetings with, or it may take some effort to arrange something, or they "fall of the face of the planet" easily. It appears to work well for someone who is willing to spend some energy and looking for same day service. There are no photographs on this site, you need to go back and forth via e-mail to obtain those or to obtain telephone numbers.

I am not aware of any other good sources for Los Angeles escorts or body workers, beyond the known escort listing sites, both paid and non-paid. Some clients here go to Rent Boy, but Rent Boy is not as predominant in Los Angeles as it is in New York. Finally, visiting escorts, particularly the body builders, adult film actors, Playgirl/Colt and other print models tend to put their visiting/traveling ads only in Frontiers and nearly all the Rent Boy escorts/body workers in Los Angeles can be found in Frontiers.

Next/HX

I had no problem getting to the body worker/escort listings on Next, which includes both photographs, text classifieds and display advertising. http://64.227.165.55/personals/index.shtml

HX, on the other hand, has redesigned their web site to make it more confusing and the web master has not properly designed it to work with cookies. There are two places it asks for log-ins and registrations, one at the main site and one under "PERSONALS." The regular "log-in" and registration on the HX site (http://www.hx.com/index.cfm) is simply to provide access to certain areas of the main site (everything on the navigation bar except for personals) and the site does not seem to remember you, you need to log in everytime it is asked for. I could not locate any classified ads at all, of any sort (roommates, housing, for sale, etc.), particularly body worker or escort listings.

The personals registration takes you to a different URL in a new window, with a registration very similar to the M4M4Sex cruise site. The personals section states it is "powered by M4M4ever" and the registration took me about 12 minutes, did not require or ask for a credit card, but did require a face shot and asked a number of questions. I also had to provide a valid e-mail address. It took me 12 minutes because I simply put "no answer" or accepted the default answer on the drop down menu. I could see no way to advance to the personals section without filling out the registration.

Once I got to the personal sections, I saw no escort or body worker (or even any other classifieds). The only I saw were typical cruise/sex/dating listings.
