Our experiences have not been nearly as bad as the OP described. Maybe it’s bc we’re in NYC. But most of the guys we’ve hired do look like their pics - some even better.

Our primary reason for hiring is that it’s easier then wasting time on Grindr and Scruff. We’ve had a couple of duds in our time hiring, but probably 80% positive. But I read reviews. I check their social media. I come on here.

I do think you have to be discriminating. What we look for more than anything is someone who seems to genuinely enjoy this work.

I Second that. I think because the motivations (other than lust) are different, we don’t see the industry with bitterness. In other words, when I decide to hire someone is because there are components that are as if not more important besides their looks. I came out of the close in my 30s but only started hiring in my 40s because one my professional life has become too demanding to spend hours on end browsing and secondly, I’m attracted to certain type of men and big on roleplaying (not everyone is big on verbal in bed) so it requires for me to be very discriminating before agreeing. I have no problem sending someone home (or leaving their place) if they don’t look like in their pictures or they suck at fantasy play. I understand where your pain comes from but you also have to take responsibility on all that 98% of escorts that were not good and took you awhile to come to a point of realization. Thank you for sharing, great topic.

There are plenty of sub-par providers out there, and there are many who are very good to exceptional.   Like many things in life, your mileage may vary.....and can be vastly improved if you are willing to study, learn and do some work.   This site is full of pointers on how to vet and screen providers, there are many entire threads just on this topic.   IMHO most ppl who enjoy this hobby have developed a system for vetting, and as a result are having largely positive experiences.  Good luck!
