Soprano Maria Ewing has died. I worked with her a number of times - a phenomenal artist tethered to the earth with a fraying silk thread. Her daughter, Rebecca Hall (with Sir Peter Hall) made her film directing debut with PASSING, currently on Netflix. 
I will never forget Maria’s Salome, when it opened at LAOpera in 1986 -electrifying. RIP, Diva.

A wonderful artist. I especially remember seeing her in "Dialogues of the Carmelites" at the Met in 1977.

I think we are lucky that she was in a number of videos in which she shone over her career. My recollection of her is of a wisp of a girl who was always able to produce more vocal power than seemed possible coming out of her diminutive body. She was really a fine operatic actress IMHO!
