Mr. Poitier appeared in many movies and several Broadway shows, including "A raisin in the Sun."  I met his first cousin when I was in the Army in 1968.

Hadn't realized he was born British. That accounted for his clipped accent. Certainly a remarkable man.

He was Bahamian, (which was British at the time) and apparently his accent from there was an obstacle at the start of his career.

Raisin was such a difficult part to play~ Entire cast was top notch~
