Finished last night. I'm obsessed, can't wait for Season 4. Amazing twist at the end. I'm going to have to check out Mare of Easttown.

I don't need dark necessarily, but I do enjoy when the writing is smart and it cuts to the bone, as in shock value. It takes a certain something to make me laugh, and I assume that's how it goes for most people. The tickle bone is different for everyone, so it's amazing to me when a comedy actually works. So much depends on the mood of the audience at the time.

I never saw AbFab, but I believe your point is spot on. A friend told me recently that comedy is dead. I was not happy with that news. IMO, you need risk to do great comedy, and no one wants to take risks anymore for fear of offending one person in the audience. All the over-sensitive narcissists want to react and behave like Will Smith. Really good comedy can no longer work in this environment.

I did too. I think I got through 2 seasons, maybe 2 1/2. At some point I stopped watching. Then I tried recently to go back to it, and stopped watching again. I never quite fully fell in love. I did think Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder have terrific chemistry. Some of the other characters annoyed me too much. I got bored with the formula.

Loved seasons 1 and 2… season 3 not as much.  Just watched 75% of season 4 episode 1… unbearably dark and nasty.  Don’t know if I’ll watch anymore.

I agree with the "dark and nasty", after two seasons it's uncomfortable to see Deborah & Ava at each other's throats to this level.  I will definitely keep watching though.

I'm fine with flipping the script.  I get bored with the same shtick season after season.

That said, I'm sure they'll kiss and make up.  

But for now, them as enemies is a lot of fun to watch.

So far they haven’t patched anything up.  At this point Harry has a better shot at reconciling with his father than Ava and Deborah have.  Ava has grown into an insufferable twat.  Ava’s denial of a deeper relationship with Deborah during their LV days in front of her throuple partners really stung Deborah.

Having Ava & Deborah at each other's throats so seriously hit me hard. I'm probably too invested in these characters 🤓 I was relieved to see that thawing in the last episode.

Great show, great writing, great performances.

Everyone needs to stay put.  It's an ensemble cast and losing one would imbalance the quirk.

I liked season 4 except for the season finale. It was a let-down of an episode (for me). Season 5 is scheduled to be the 'final season' for the series.

Actually what I liked about the last episode is that season 5 (hopefully?) is the original gang in Vegas rewriting Debs legacy and all the woah is me or resentment is done and they hit the ground running as a a comedic Thelma and Louise (maybe that's a bad metaphor lol)

I think of HACKS as a hybrid relationship story -

Age-gap Comedy, Workplace Power-struggle, and Fraternal Romance. I applaud the way the creators and cast flesh out all three. I think it needs one more season.
