Planning a weekend trip for later in the summer, last few times I went I've stayed in Jersey and taken the ferry over in the mornings which is fine in the morning but makes getting home a pain late at night, anyone have any recommendations for good hotels near the nightlife/shopping areas?

I will be interested in the recs as much has changed since the pandemic. I stayed in the Roosevelt in midtown in 2019 a few months before the closedown and now I understand it has permanently shuttered. I liked it a lot. Perfect for taking escorts to and even overnights. Nice breakfasts in the morning. In rooms I only require a king-sized bed, not much else. I'm easy to please.

Incentra Village, a very nice gay hotel in the West Village.  I have seen actors walking around in the neighborhood, like Julia Roberts and many cast members of "The Sopranos.

I used to like staying in gay hotels in NY, LA and SF in the day. Now I prefer regular large hotels.

If in a place like PS, Key West or Provincetown, I have and would still stay in a gay establishment.

What regular hotels would you recommend in NY, LA and SF? I'm fine with a regular hotel for sure.

I would recommend 60 Soho (formerly 60 Thompson street) where I have been staying  on frequent trips this summer

What kind of a hotel is that? I have fond memories of Thompson St. from the 70's/80's when I slept with a dancer who lived there. He gave me an autographed book of modern dance, which I still have. He went on to found his own dance company.

I believe he danced for Lars Lubovitch at that time.

I checked out 60 Soho and not sure I would stay there. Read about 50 reviews and while many were happy, some of the negative ones involved noise till 3am from thumping music and a young crowd. Some critical of room standards which should not be the case when nightly rates are around $400 excluding taxes.

I've stayed at Sixty Soho in 2018-2019 on several trips to NYC.  I liked the location and reasonable walking distance to the subway.  I liked the neighborhood and number of restaurants in the immediate area.  Rates were from $250-350 range at that time.  My last NYC trip I moved to a sister property - Sixty Lower East Side (Sixty LES)(https://www.sixtyhotels.com/destinations/new-york-city/sixty-les) as they had lower rates.  One thing about Sixty LES is the bedding is very low to the floor.  They have platform bedding that is very low and can be a little challenging getting out of bed.

The Sixty Soho has a restaurant (Leased to a third party) on the first floor and a private rooftop bar.  The rooftop bar (leased to a third party) was active but I didn't hear any noise during my visits.  I'd stay at Sixty Soho if I got a good rate, otherwise, I'd look elsewhere.

The Roosevelt was one of the worst hotels I have stayed in.

I like the Westin Times Square, but am booked at Springhill Suites on Fifth Avenue for my fall trip. Prices are high.

Plus, the little Roosevelt Teddy Bear was so cute!

Asking about hotels is like asking about restaurants.... so many choices and neighbohoods. Although I live here, I have visited or stayed in many for "work". Not sure of the specific vibe or neighborhood you are looking for.  Some I like and recommend to friends (i'm sure there are many I am not including):

Park Hyatt- if someone else is paying

Mandarin Oriental - if someone else is paying

Andaz - if someone else is paying

Hotel Giraffe -so cute and adorable

Williamsburg Hotel -for something different

Gramercy Park Hotel - love this place. Did a staycation here before the pandemic.

Marriott Courtyard in Chelsea - surprisingly good value but tiny rooms

Club Quarters Hotel- the World Trade Center is the only one Ive been to and they are totally functional and clean...though a little bit far from transportation

Thanks for all the great suggestions, I feel like I'm going to have to plan multiple trips just to see some of these places now haha

Thanks for this suggestion. I've never been. The Botero sculpture looks awesome.

It's as whimsical as the hotel itself, no?  I like that.

Now, if we're talking a money-is-no-object stay, I'd recommend looking into Aman NYC when it opens later this year.

I've never had less than a perfect stay at every Aman property I've been to.

The ferry from Jersey City looks quite convenient and there is a Hyatt that looks nice. Probably worth it if you don't mind taking uber late at night.. i hear the PATH train is very convenient.

Why was that? The room I had had no view but with the amenities, which included a Lucas Entertainment pornstar to sleep with me for 2 of the three nights, I really didn’t need for anything else. 😆

Dark, tiny room, unfriendly staff, slow housekeeping and if I remember correctly, a long walk to the elevator. No pornstar!

It doesn’t really matter now as it’s closed as I understand. But I found the front desk staff to be very helpful and friendly, the housekeeping kept me in lots of fresh towels (needed as I had a three some one night) and yes the walk to the elevators was longish as I was at the end of one of the wings.

Small room and dark but only spent mostly the dark hours there. I loved the public rooms, including the lobby/lounge, the bar which was lively every 5 o’clock ( mid-week) and the breakfast room which had great food. Also had on site convenience store for little extras. The guests were also a nice class of people, many foreigners with their families. Side note; South American children are very well behaved.

And the location was great if you like mid-town. I would go back it it was still open.
