I never thought about that. I never hear anti-gay remarks and I always let everyone know I'm gay. I never made the correlation before!

I am out. I've known I was gay from about 5 on. I had a cereal prize ring that I put the name of my crushes in. It was interesting though even though I knew I was gay and never thought it was "wrong" I knew I shouldn't come out until later for self preservation which later turned out to be a wise decision.

I didn't start messing around until college even though I had my secret erotica stash in the closet. Started my sexual life in full force in my last year of college and was "sexually generous" until I met my first partner who I was with for 8 years. My parents thought he was a roommate and finally was forced to come out when the roommate my partner and I had wouldn't stay with a friend when my father came to visit. After I told them I felt so free. My father's reaction was not good though. He said I would have been thrown out of the house if it had happened earlier. Also, he sent me a letter that included such gems as, "I can't believe you need to spread your legs for another man to feel love." Hmmm. How did he know I was a bottom?

In time it got better but one thing I realized is that I would not challenge or push very hard to get things to be better. In talking with my parents I would edit things out that would let them into my life - not sexual things but talk of gay friends, etc. I realize I have to continue to take an active role in making it more open.

At work when I was in Dallas I was less explicit about being gay despite being in the relationship. By explicit I mean referring to him as a partner, acknowledging his role in my life not sexually explicit.

Now, in San Francisco, I am up front about my life, my new partner(again of 8 years)and our full lives.

If you're still reading this I'm proud of you and your caffeine tolerance.

Mostly main stream stuff, Very much a t-shirt and shorts guy.

Some designer labels for dates and dress up (no Rick, not that kind of dress up ;) )

I'm no Imelda , not even close. A few designer shoes, again for dress. But since going to Rio on a regular basis, I must have 15 pairs of Havaianas (their popular brand of flip flops)..((no Rick, not that kind of flip-flops:+ )) in five or six colors.

Some Lands End jackets & a leather bomber jacket from a trip to New York city.

Under gear from Hugo Boss & 2(x)ist. I wear mostly Adidas socks, the kind that don't show when you are wearing athletic shoes.

Oh, my golf shoes are Foot Joy's.}(

That's about it. Pretty dull I imagine.

Sorry, I couldn't see past all of the wire hangers and responded to the wrong Rick post.

Being out has always seemed to me to be a full time job. I'm just too lazy and set in my ways to take on that job.

LOL You mean that having to constantly make up stories (and keep those stories straight) and remembering to change "he" to "she" in those stories, and constantly pretending to be something you're not is less work than just existing and being who you are? I've read many reasons for staying in the closet (and as I've said above, I respect them all), but come on, this one is just silly. That's like me saying I go to the gym and workout everyday because being a couch potato seems like a full-time job and I'm just too lazy to do that. :o

Who says he does all that? I don't wear rainbow flags every day, but I don't make up stories either.

It has actually come in handy.

I've been in meetings where some boorish asshole makes an anti-fag comment and I just announce "OK, if that's the way you feel I'll leave" and I do leave.

It's particularly effective when it's a charity and a large part of their campaign hinges on the software I've offered to write for them. I've seen entire boards of directors shuffled just to keep me on board. The homophobe is suddenly gone.

It's no different from when I lived in NY and worked for a consulting firm run by two openly Jewish partners. We joked that I was the token gentile.

During a first meeting, a new client told me "it's good to work with a company with good yiddish cups" and then asked whether I'd be available on the Sabbath. I replied that most Methodists are but I'd be resigning his account and we'd send him a nice Jewish boy in my place since that was so important to him.

Same issue.

Well let's see...I don't date, I don't talk about my private life and I don't invite questions about my private life. I'm also not sure how people knowing about who I have sex with enriches my life or theirs. I assume that everyone knows I'm gay and I pursue more important and practical issues.

I 100% agree with seattlebottom on this one. It's nobody's business who anyone fucks at night.

It always amusing me how a few far-left militant "gay activists" fail in their numerous neverending attempts to label all closeted gays as somehow being deficient, "self loathing", dishonest "lesser-than" people who have no integrity.

It's simply breathtaking. Breathtaking I tell you.

I'm in the CLOSET and PROUD to be IN THE CLOSET and feel that anyone who attempts to invade my privacy against my will, or belittle me in ANY way simply based on THEIR far-left personal political beliefs are the true vermon.

God bless.

I named my Boston Terrier "Kwame" after our corrupt Mayor. *Loves it*
