I remember going to see Phaedra  in a movie theater with a straight female friend when it was released in 1962 (Melina Mercouri was the title character). As we left the theater, the first thing she said to me was, "You  know that Perkins has to be gay, don't you?"

VAN LEO ran a successful portrait photography studio in Cairo during the second half of the 20th century. His self-portraits were an artistic highlight of his career. He used them to experiment with new setups and photographic techniques including solarization, the use of glass shields and filters, sandwiched negatives, multiple exposures and creative lighting effects.
