My company has cancelled all international travel and is severely limiting domestic US travel. I had to cancel an appointment with one of my favorite guys in Florida.

prepare for a severe recession. It’s coming I believe......

However, I agree that I wouldn't go traipsing around a bath right now.

In general, the high humidity of a bath might make aerosol viral disease transmission harder. That's certainly true for the flu anyway. Although I doubt the new COVID virus has been studied enough to see if it follows the same seasonality pattern as cold and flu viruses.

Steamworks in Chicago had a big sign saying they would refuse anyone entry with signs of a cold because of COVID worries. It was still quite hopping though.

LOL. Virus shedding starts before any obvious signs.

I was planning to go to Europe on a short vacation but will cancel my trip due to the travel ban the administration just imposed. All international travel is canceled at work and all non essential domestic travel too.

I think I may hold on meeting companions for a few weeks to monitor the situation too...

I had a bunch of days coming up where circumstances would have allowed me to host and I was working on a quite a line up. I had squirreled away a little pile of cash and had all sorts of decadence planned. In light of recent developments (and the incubation period of this damned thing) I am going to abstain and put the slutfest on hold. It kills me to do it, but then again I don't want to get killed doing it.....

Am I missing something, or could one just get a flight to their desired destination in Europe that connects through London?

I actually happen to already be in that position, I have a trip to Scandinavia via London with a client booked for May. I live in Canada, not the US, so it's a bit different anyway, but I'm still clinging to the hope that the trip will go ahead.

As I read it flights will still be operating, but there are restrictions on travellers. They apply to people who have been in a Schengen area country in the previous 14 days. US citizens and residents will be subject to quarantine of some sort on return, and will have to arrive at designated US gateway airports, and non-US citizens will be denied access to the US. Their departure point doesn't matter, it's whether they have been in the Schengen area in the previous 14 days that matters.

Ah, I see. Good to know.

I find that the ban is somewhat arbitrary. All these 26 schengen countries lumped together. Take Portugal for example with 78 cases vs 590 for the UK. I am more concerned about developing nations whose reporting is ridiculous. India has only 74 cases with a population of 1.3 billion. Cut me a break! Meanwhile Iceland which is 3000 times smaller reports 109 cases. Banning countries should be based on medical data not politics.

As @mike carey says, it goes by whether you have been in a 26 country within 14 days. However, I don't think the UK is checking or stamping people coming from the 26 so I'm not sure how the US will know unless its a connecting flight from one of those countries. I have Czech friends coming today to beat the deadline. I was going to return with them in 2 months but all that is t.b.d. now.
