This is going to be odd... but am I the only Moravian here? I've grown up my whole life wondering if there are any other folks like me in the world and was wondering about this place too.

Moravian the protestant faith not area of the Czech Republic.

Im curious (hence my user name), what are some of the characteristics of the Moravian faith that make it different from other protestant faiths?

I found this online.

For me growing up gay I was very fortunate my faith tradition focused on "JOYFUL" noises and never preached the gospel of hate (as I call it). Living in Texas I have walked out of so many churches when hate starts to spew from clergy lips.

I would also say our musical history is very rich and is typically more tradition than new age. The star in my profile is Moravian and most folks don't know it is actually a denomination. We also have something called Putz and a service called Lovefeast.

No Moravian churches in Texas but when ever I travel and can find a community I try to attend. The two largest cities where you find Moravian Culture are #1 Bethlehem PA and #2 Winston-Salem, NC.

Having spent a majority of my life in eastern PA, where there are a number of small communities of old Central European religious affiliations, I am familiar with the Moravians, although even there one encounters few of them now. In the 18th and 19th centuries, they did a lot of missionary work in Native American tribes. One of my colleagues at work went to Moravian College, which surprised me because he was Chinese-American.

BTW, I have been to Moravia, where hardly anyone knows who the "Moravians" are.

Lititz, PA has a lovely old Moravian Church that hosts Bach’s Christmas Oratorio every year. It’s also the site of the oldest girls’ boarding school in the US, Linden Hall. Also, the Moravian Bookstore in historic Bethlehem, founded in 1745, used to be one of my favorites.

I also grew up in SE Pennsylvania. There are fascinating little denominations there: Schwenkfelders, Brethren in Christ, “new” Mennonites, Hutterites. The Swedenborgians are centered in the lovely village of Bryn Athyn just outside Philadelphia. The Gothic/Romanesque cathedral is a marvel as is the Pitcairn castle.
