Ululation is a howling or wailing sound. In many cultures, the sound of ululation is common at a funeral, while in others the mourners only sniffle quietly. Ululation is often mournful and it's always full of emotion.

Straight out of Zootopia! ??

While I love Shakira, I found her performance at the beginning somewhat flat. Wished they would have interacted together more back and forth then splitting their time in half and then performing together at the end. Let's keep in mind, these ladies are performers and entertainers, more then simply musicians, so outfits and dance is always going to be part of it. And two ladies who are know for their backsides and how to move them. They weren't in thongs for crying out loud. Beyonce's ass was more out than these two, and I dont hear the same outcrys. Personally though, Prince's performance is always going to be the standard

I find it funny how any man on THIS site, can be so prudish about a performance?

I'm all for intentional semi-pornographic crotch shots and pseud-humping. It shouldn't be on national - international television .

I think it's all about the content of what the viewer is expecting, what the purpose is, and if it is open to objective opinion, someone is always going to be offended, turned off, etc.

Semi-pornographic crotch shots and pseud-humping....that sounds like what competitive gymnastics and competitive dancing is, right?

But it is never decried the same, if at all.

musicians have been doing pseudo humping since television created “technicolor”....

Elvis, Chuck Berry, Michael Jackson, etc. Most people aren’t that sensitive to it.

And I’m not sure of the last pornographic film you’ve watched, but the shots of the actual footballs players bent over, with their sheer leggings showing their jockstraps and cracks, probably ignited just as much excitement from some viewers, as Shakira and JLo’s butts did to others...

I understand now.... from looking at your profile pic.... you probably feel that having a gyrating crotch on stage is “improper”... instead just “grab the pussy”, backstage.... ??

That's how we make next year's 1/2 time better, have the Dotard himself come out a grab J-Lo's pussy.

I cant see how anyone can object to J-Lo or Shakiras performance for any reason OTHER THAN it just wasnt exciting enough for a super bowl 1/2Time ?

Good lord, the pearl clutching. The kind of dancing Shakira and J.Lo did is completely normal in Latin culture and no one worries this much about it.

I feel a little like I wound up among the anti-dance crowd in Dirty Dancing (which I've never seen, just read about).

I enjoyed it, although I would have liked more whole songs and less of a medley. (I don't really know any of their songs, although I recognized the titles of a few.) And the suggestion that they start together is a good one too. At least it's better than boring groups like Coldplay, Maroon 5 or even in some ways the Rolling Stones. (Beyoncé was the most recent halftime performer whose performance I enjoyed.)

Also Shakira and J.Lo did this for free, which is mind-boggling. I get the impression that this is generally the case for the Super Bowl. So be grateful there even is a halfrime show if you don't care about the game. (And given the prevalence of CTE, it's not even clear if football is an ethically sustainable sport.)

All the PRUDES and HYPOCRITES criticizing JLo and Shakira here don’t realize that ALL OF THIS WAS INTENTIONAL. Celebrities make a living from people gossiping about them. While straight guys salivate, women hate them, and some gays trash them saying it was INDECENT and poor quality, they are making money out of an entire nation streaming her performance on video, over and over again. And for National and International reputation ... Which country produces more porn in the world? Come on, I thought gays were smarter! ?

No hate here. J Lo is an outlier, but I found the spectacle heartening after reading about how escorts smirk with disappointment because the client is almost 50.

Speaking of generating talk, remember the “wardrobe malfunction” a few years back?

Have you ever seen the Rolling Stones perform in person?

The normalization of sexism, stripping and pornography are too much for me; Fox is ridiculous!

As I understand it, this is true every year. The NFL pays expenses but that's it. Artists do it because it will boost sales, streaming numbers, etc. When I went to do a search on Apple Music today, the top two "trending" searches were . . . you guessed it . . . J. Lo and Shakira.

At one point in the game they had a comparison of ticket prices from the first Super Bowl. Among the other information presented was that Carol Channing did the halftime show. I wish I had seen that one.

Which was almost certainly unintentional, considering it derailed Janet Jackson's career for years but did absolutely nothing to Justin Timberlake's.

Also it is ironic (or something) that the CBS head honcho who blacklisted Jackson over this is a serial sexual harasser.
