Unfortunately stolen checks is a whole different situation than “hacked” credit/debit cards, sorry to hear this happened to you. Has Happened to me twice at least, once business and once a private club I belonged to. Both instances involved nefarious employees.

They opened 10 credit cards and I had to file police reports for each one of them...Fortunately, I bought my condo before it happened so it didn't really impact my mortgage or anything (I'm trying to look on the bright side of things)

During my 15 years of doing massage, I have found the following to be true of irritating and time wastage clients:

1. First thing they ask is whether the masseur takes credit cards; when provided with other options like Venmo and PayPal they say nah I don’t have that. That’s the prelude to BS101 :):)

2. Second, they ask for reduced time and reduced fee if the masseur has standard rates. Or they ask for certain aspects of the full service only and seek a reduced rate. That’s Fuckery101

3. They’ll ask so many things and then just disappear in thin air without the simple courtesy of saying ‘thank you’ etc. That’s AgentVinod101 style - acts sophisticated but no money in the bank... lol

4. Ok your turn :):)

If not utilizing Venmo or PayPal is the sign of a broke client then I should file for bankruptcy. I would never consider using either service.

Please be aware and understand that this may be a generational thing. Older people may prefer cash or checks to the new electronic payment methods.

And, for the record, I’m far from being bankrupt.

The checks were stolen before they even arrived at my place. I have no idea what happened... just a whole bunch of forged/canceled checks from "black" sounding names in Georgia and Florida.

I would still call my insurance company and ask about fraud protection for stolen/forged check fraud.

Thanks instudio...however, this was 15 years ago. So, i doubt it will help. It was a hard lesson for me to be more careful scrutinizing my statements and accounts. I just didn't realize how victimized and violated I felt esp when someone has my personal information like that. I was living in Soho at the time and had to go to the 1st precinct. Going to a police station to file the reports were the most humiliating thing i had to do. It's like watching an episode of special victims unit.

I've always accepted credit cards.

You can definitely broaden your customer base by offering more than one payment option. The more options you can afford to offer the better. People are more inclined to make a credit or a convenience purchase when they are short on cash. Accepting cash only may limit appointment requests.

How is it racist?

Among other things, if they were "white sounding names", I doubt you would have mentioned it.

I didn‘t want to put the name of the culprit out there. It is definitely an ebonics name.

Nothing says "I'm not a racist" like casual use of the word "ebonics".

Do you want me to spell it out?

Really? You think you're being subtle?

Holy shit, dude... at this point you are either completely tone deaf to how racist you are or are just trolling.

Please give us some examples of "ebonics names".

I don't understand this. You don't want to name and shame the person who actually committed the crime but you are prepared to blame everybody, adult or child, guilty or innocent, on the grounds that they share what you believe to be a name of similar origin. Nor do I understand @Guy Fawkes, surely @big dale was simply looking at a vaguely possible explanation. How can that be trolling?

I'm another one of those who charges everything. I have a large minimum spend i need to make on my Delta Am Ex for the MQD waiver and every little bit helps. I also get milles. I download data every night into quicken so am alerted to fraud within a day and also credit cards help me keep track of my spending and I hate carrying large amounts of cash (my wallet was stolen once and was nice not having to worry about losing a large amount of cash). If you have a problem with a merchant using paypal you have to go through paypal instead of your bank to dispute it which is a real pain in the ass.

I realize a massage therapist would have to pay a credit card fee but I'm sure most of them aren't reporting the income for tax purposes so the transaction charges are pocket change compared to what the tax on the income would be.

For an escort I would never think of using my credit card just since i don't a paper trail of the transaction and the escort knowing my full name. If it's a legit massage I am fine with them only accepting cash. I have seen some massage therapist/escorts say they want a deposit and if that's the case they should allow the client to pay the remainder of the charge on a credit card fee free (If an escort asks for a deposit I immediately stop responding).
