They still live in NYC. For some reason on their RM ad they tend to change their home city to their travel city so it looks like they’re living in San Fran when in fact they’re just visiting there.

I don't think it's a terrible practice. The only real problem comes in where you might delay trying to meet someone because you think, "Well, if they've moved here, I have time to meet them in a month or two," then you find they were only visiting.

We also have absolutely no control over it. None.

Intuitively, if I change my location, it should just be that, changing where I am currently located at while still being able to indicate a separate location that I call home.

But the RM UI links your home location with your current location and does not separate them. There is no way to set your home location different then your current location other than enabling gps. Which can be confusing and have its own problems if currently at an outcall location.

But they were also visiting Dallas and showed up on the general Dallas list or the Visiting Escort List. And I thought I had seen Dallas escorts who were away from the city still show up on the Dallas list until you clicked on the ad and found they were traveling currently.

Everything you mentioned is more or less correct regarding travel locations and such.

More reason why location info on RM can be confusing especially when enabling gps in effect creates an entirely different experience regarding location.

So even more confusing...I just played with the location features.

It's not obvious how to separate home vs gps without enabling active gps. You have to NOT hit save once you move your location pin manually.

Then when you click the ad it still only shows the home location over the picture even when currently somewhere else, so it makes you question which is more accurate. ( I am currently in Portland, separated my home/GPS location. Went to search for my profile by searching in Portland. Found my profile in Portland. But when I clicked on it the first indication of location is still Las Vegas)

This is EXACTLY why I, as a potential client, think it is a TERRIBLE practice. Similarly, if it looks like someone from my town whom I was interested in has 'moved' to Fuknott, Alaska (for instance), I'm apt to write them off and move on to other ads. (Even though I find out later they were only visiting that other town.)

 

The fact that the 'location icon' causes so much confusion seems to me reason enough to clearly state your travel dates in the body of the ad.
