Since the late, late 90s or very early 2000s-- I've come to this site.

For a long while, during these years, I would click and read and think! Afterwards I began to seek the services of some of the escorts who'd been reviewed and discussed. I'd peruse many of the forums and enjoy the contents. Months late, I thought that I would write my thoughts and advice (if sought) about some of the varying and sundry subjects that prevailed here.

 

But now, men, as we near the end of the eighth month of 2007, I wonder in what direction is this site going. The reviews (I'd presume for which the site was initially started by the late Hooboy) are slim and uninteresting, to say the least, and at some of the forums that exist-- there is little writing being done by the participants: note the dates on some. This is unfortunate, as I've found some of the information and advice and interests of others to be rather useful and valuable in the past. But based on the current content and the lack of fresh writing, I have begun to think: where is this site going? Will it still be around for a while for our use?

Axiom, many have made known their dissatisfaction with some of the reviews over time and it seems as though there is not much to be done. The reviews come in as they do, and the policy here has been to accept reviews as they are rather than encourage something different. It is hard to figure out just what management should do about that as they don't want to discourage people from sending in reviews. I guess we have to take what we get and do what we can as individuals to provide more interesting reviews.

 

For me the forums are the most interesting part of the site and even they are not what they used to be. I come here for entertainment and education, and enjoy shooting the breeze with fellow posters. Over time, many of the guys I liked the best have stopped posting. (It was nice to see foxy back this week.)

 

So many of us are pretty set in our opinions that discussions often don't go far as a result. I did try to liven things up with a post about the NY Times and the future of ink, whether it be for newspapers or tattoos, but little interest was shown. So I took an opposite tact, writing about eye makeup for men becoming more popular, and it never took off either.

 

So, I guess I have lost my touch at making things interesting around here, and it doesn't seem as though many others are trying too hard. So many of the threads are trite that it seems to be what the majority prefer. A lot of guys do crossswords, others golf, some play video games, some watch tv. I like to banter about on the message center, and so I guess I have to go with the flow, which lately has taken us to a Minnesota airport! All is not lost, but more could be done.

I thought FFF was a hoot and a half and now that he's out there's nothing to read. And the constant nanny-whining and policing about "no hard-on pics" or any "erotica" on a gay message board is ridiculous. Rockhard (no fan of mine) was 110 percent correct when he said the damn federal law that deej and Daddy are so fretful about has been enforced like NEVER and is intended for prevention of kiddie porn if anything. Get real. Other sites like "justusboys" and "queerclick" (and DLISTED.COM for hilarious "mainstream celebrity gossip" with a gay flare) are more entertaining and have more dick and ass and less mommies.

Making lemonade

In the past ten days or so, I have started a few threads, but nothing drives hits like controversy, so until Scott Adler pisses someone off (heheh) or that other guy writes words that aren't his, well, I guess we'll have to make lemonade.

To me the reviews have become totally irrelevant. I don't think it is because a lack of reviews, it's just that reviews don't get published. I have submitted at least two reviews that never got published. So, why should I bother to send more?

 

I also agree that the more diversity the better the boards are. I say bring them all and remove all rules, isn't that the way life is? I disagree. FFF is a malicious, mean person who on occasion was humorous. More often he was just plain mean spirited. I'm happy he is gone and hope he stays so.

The reviews and message board will at times be dull and other times quite amusing. My review was posted the other day, unfortunately the review wasn't about a stellar performance by an escort.

I have been reading the message board. but have not given much input simply because I have been doing a lot of bike riding, which meant that I was out until the sun started to set, and because I am just drained.

I don't miss the petty sniping from a few of the people who have left, and at times I thought their comments or remarks, were similar to those made by kids in gradeschool.

I think that not all the topics have been overly interesting for me personally. I'm not saying that they were good or bad, but only that I found little interest in them. I love trains and locomotives, but would never expect to find such a fanatic in this group.

Raul from Chicago, does like tains however, and that is one of the things we have in common, besides biking.

So what I am trying to say is that certain things will only interest a few people, yet there are other things, that seem to interest a lot of people. Its just a matter of finding topics that people want to talk about.

I share Axiom's concern about the reviews being a little a thinner than they used to be (they also seem to be getting minimal over at "the other site"). Things do get published. My last one was critical of an experience and it took about a month--I suspect the escort may have contributed to that as he has a new review (today, in fact) that is more positive and from a 1st time reviewer. Regardless, at least I wrote about someone who had not been reviewed by others. And I just submitted one on Marcus Iron and I may finally write one on the scam artist I encountered in Chicago. he has stuck around longer than these characters usually do.

 

The boards have been less lively, of late. Things do tend to slow down in the summer, esp. around Labor Day. Some of it is finding new topics and new escorts to discuss. As for people who've left, RockHard rarely registered on my radar screen. As for FFF, when he was good, he was hilarious, but several of his posts were simply mean spirited and over-worn attacks on his usual subjects. On balance, at least we have less BN.

 

I have appreciated Axiom and others' reports from Rio. I've wanted to go back but have been drawn to other places and the appreciation of the Brasilian currency hasn't helped.

I agree the site does not seem as exciting to me as when I first started in the HooBoy days--some is certainly my fault--It was because of this site that I finally hired my first escort (LA's Brogan)--and then some others. Now that escorts have become a bit "old hat" to me, I really have just taken to reading the forum and not expecting to find a new escort since I'm quite pleased with the regular I've found.

 

I too very much miss FFF's posts. I don't see really why those who may have disagreed with him were so hostile and angry about him--can't you just stop reading? Click on something else? Honestly, this is the one and only forum I visit that has this fear. Some I visit multiple times a day (Queerclick) some daily (JustUsBoys, many 'blogs') and some infrequently like ATKOL and they do not ban obviously of-age men photographed flaccid OR hard or gay sex hardcore shots. Scat I've never seen and too-kiddie looking shots (especially if amateur or not widely circulated and well know twinks just looking too kiddie) I've seen removed and understand that.

I'm just sayin'.

I don't think we should blame daddy. There are many factors affecting the "scene" and us... Firstly, many escort "stars" have been the subject of a great deal of conjecutre recently. A lot os us, including myslef, have taken a hiatus from hiring. It used to be such an adventure ... but I need a rest.

 

This forum has been a wonderful experience. I rarely post anymore, but I read daily. It is so nice to connect. It means the world to people like me, and I suspect, so many others. And in that community there couldbe differences, but did we have to let it go this fatz??? Yhen there was Rock Hard. I have been utilizing this particular site since discovering it in late 1999. It was just over a year before I submitted my first review and then subsequently posted a comment on the message board. It took me a while to work up the courage to plunge into this board, under another handle at the time, in part due to the rather uh...intense nature of many of the discussions. It was not long before I allowed my handle to expire and went back to lurking for a bit. About four years ago I decided to return to posting

 

Some of you may find FFF or Rockhard to be malicious and mean spirited in their postings but there was a time on this board when FFF or RH would be considered school girls compared to the early days. (Wel...not FFF but certainly RH could be called school girlish when compared to the past around here. }( ) I well remember the scandals starting with Truth Teller, Ethan, Sean, Aaron Lawrence, and Devon just to name a few. Anyone recall when postings used to be rated? Better yet, when moderators became necessary?

 

Oh, and complaints about the quality and lack of reviews or the “death of the message board”? That old canard has been around since the beginning of the site. Yes, even under HooBoy (RIP) there were issues about the quality of the submissions, inconsistency of daily postings of new reviews, and that inevitable “I can’t submit a review” or “I’ve not heard from HooBoy about my e-mail” complaint. Hmmm....the more things change the more they remain the same. Or perhaps it would be better to say that history repeats itself. Comparatively speaking, Daddy has been a lot less heavy handed than HooBoy (RIP) and has a much thicker skin given some of the things that have been alleged about the administration of this site by some.

 

The nature of message boards continually evolve and posters come and go. Some get bored and move on others get kicked out for an inability to follow simple TOS rules of decorum. A few get pissed when criticized and gather up their pail and leave the sandbox. (Just how many times has FFF left in a huff only to return some time later? I hope both he and Rock Hard return soon.)

 

 

Fortunately, every board seems to have a core group that sticks around providing interesting perspectives (well some) and many prove to be fonts of information not just about hiring escorts. It’s great to have these silverbacks like Lucky, Deej, Rick Munroe, Chuck50, Bilbo, One Finger, Jackhammer, to name just a few. (And let’s not forget there are many more lurkers than there are registered users too.)

 

I’d certainly like to see more escorts participate but there are many reasons for the working guys to avoid taking the risk given what can happen around this place. Without the escorts who do post here this place would be REALLY boring. Many thanks to Scott Adler, Rick Munroe, Juan Vancouver, Steven Draker, Kevin Slater, Eric and, more recently, Steve Stacks, as well as the other escorts who post for being willing to wade into some of these discussions. For those escort lurkers out there, come on in the water’s fine....oh don’t worry about that shark fin.

 

Based on my history with the site I can’t put much credence in the assertion that things are lousy around here. The number of reviews posted each day is entirely dependent on the number that gets properly submitted by the users. As to the quality of those reviews there’s not a blasted thing Daddy can do about that short of hiring a full time editor and fact checker. I will also assert that the reviews at MER are no better and certainly in less number than here on a regular basis. The message board here is much more active than any other related board as well.

 

Let the kvetching continue it seems to be what we do best around here.
