Take a walk along El Malecon, the remnant of the thriving business district along the water front. The handsome, muscular young men will find you and introduce themselves. You will be startled by the friendliness, eagerness, hospitality. Stay at the Hotel Nacional. It is the original and still best mostly-wealthy-American 1950's hotel, also near El Malecon. Be sure the eat breakfast in the breakfast bar. It was in the 1950 the hotel's nightclub. All the Kennedys and mafioso were photographed there and their B&W photos adorn the walls. You can almost feel the short-skirted, rose selling, flash-bulb camera carrying waitresses. It's as if they screen out the Eurotrash. Guys on sex vacations meet there to discuss the service providers.

There are quite a few threads at https://boytoy.com regarding Cuba. Most of the posts are from the past two or three years. There haven't been any thus far in 2019. I found my one escort on www.gayromeo.com., ...can't remember his name, but if his ad is still up, he's standing and sporting a great tat on upper torso, I think. The only draw back is that he only spoke Espanol and I English. ...fee $30 - $40 CUC (the currency for tourists). Don't exchange dollars in Cuba, for there is a 15% fee. [...can't have guests in the hotels; this applies for men and women and has been the policy since 1989, my first time there; my last times were 2015 and 2017, but I am definitely NOT an authority. Had good websites but don't remember them now. There are gay clubs and one or two cafes in Habana. But go to the website that I alluded to in the above, and what's there should be of great help. Hire a gay tour guide; one or two names are mentioned in boytoy's blog/website.

OK, no problem. It's just that in the 21st century as much as Americans are traveling now and with the influx of immigrants from every corner of the world, people here still have these erroneous stereotypes about what people in other counties look and behave like. That song is just another example of a reinforced stereotype. Sorry I didn't mean to bit your head off and I apologize for the rant. ;)

Here you find nearly all restaurants of Havana with directions and phone numbers and also a map.

 

According to that I will only list on the names of the restaurants with my personal comments.

 

1 Locos Por Cuba. Funny place with very good Cuban food and cheap. Popular

2. Porto Habana. On the 11th floor spectacular view. Good food. Owners are gay.

3. Otramanera. Best restaurant with nice bar.

4. Mediterraneo Havana. Good Italian food.

5. La Guarida. Top and expensive. Known for the gayfilm Strawberry and Chocolate.

6. La Corte del Principe. The best Italian restaurant in Havana.

7. La cucina de Liliam. Beautiful place in a house with garden. Very good.

8. Ivan Chef Justo. Good restaurant in the old town.

9. Habana Mia 7. Great Fusion cuisine with open kitchen.

10. Habana Blues. Like eating in a theater. The waiters are all actors.

11. El Idilio. Good and nice Cuban cuisine.

12. El Cocinero. Great place very close to the Art Factory. Fabrica del Arte Cubano called FAC. This is open Thursday to Sunday. Always big queues. But worth to visit. Only in the night.

13. El Biky. A big place on 2 floors and several restaurants included a bakery. I recommend the upper floor with piano music.

14. Castropol. Nice place on 2 floors on the Malecon. Something like Ocean drive in Havana. Ask for table on upper floor with view on Malecon. Good food. Ocean view.

15. Cafe Laurent. Ask for a table outside. Very good food. Charming place on the 5th floor.

16. Bella Ciao. Very good italian. Pizza!

17. 5Esquinas Trattoria. Nice and funny italian restaurant in the old town.

18. La Catedral. Nothing to do with the cathedral. Very popular place because it has the best price-quality. The beef is excellent here

19. Vistamar. Great place with oceanview. Go either for lunch or sunset at 7pm. Here you can realize how beautiful Havana was 70 years ago.

 

Cubans are eating when they are hungry. Restaurants gets crowded between 7.30 and 9. Try to make reservation. La Catedral not possible. But they sit you fast!

 

Gay places

 

Mycaito is the gay beach. On weekends very crowded and funny. All drivers know the place. To get a chair I recommend to go before 1 pm.

Bars and disco

1 La Esencia. It's gay with show on Monday. You find address in AlaMesa

2 Tablao. Gay on Thursday. The place is between hotel Inglaterra and Gran teatro national. Parque central. Also with show.

3 Cabaret Las Vegas. Open every night with show. Tel. 78367939. Make reservations of front table. Good show. Very funny. Prices ok when you take a bottle of ron. You can always share it...

4 King Bar. Small place with a lot of beautiful people. Owner is gay. Music loud. Outside tables for smoking and eating. Food good and cheap. I personally like the place because it's open mind.

5 Bar XY small, but nice with show. Formerly Bar Myxto. Is close to the monument of General Maceo.

6 Karabali on the 23 road. Not sure, if it is still working. Also with show

7. Cafe Cantante. Only Saturday. Very interesting. Close to revolution square. With show.

In all gay places you can have a table. It costs sometimes between 30 and 50 cuc including a bottle with soft drinks. You can always ask for ice. You are not obliged to buy a table. But it is easier. The gay places opens around 11pm and gets crowded at midnight. The show starts around 1pm. Las Vegas earlier.

Outside are always taxi drivers to bring you home or to another place.
