What's with all the beards??? I know it's a matter of personal taste (not mine) like tattoos or hirsute guys, but is it me, or do lots more men have beards now? I see so many I would hire if they did not.

Oh yeah, the beard has been making a comeback for several years now what with the hipsters and the lumbersexual with their woollen shirts.

Beards have definitley gone mainstream (much like tattoo's) the past decade.

I love, love, love beards. :)

Me, personally - if a guy is smooth-faced.....if it's possible in his own personal situation, I ask guys not to shave on the day when we're going to meet (or 2 day growth, even better)....on most men, I love the unshaven / 5 o'clock shadow / grunge look....my "standard" words to all hires - showering always required / face-shaving always optional.....

personally, I myself also have a perpetual "5 o'clock shadow" happening.....matches my own moderately hairy bod.....& since I'm also mostly attracted to guys like myself, I basically never hear complaints like giving "razor burn" or being told that "it" "tickles", etc....

Man, did you hit it on all cylinders there in that post!

Thanks for saying it better than I ever could have!

But, as a qualifier to my tastes, a smooth face on a guy is not a deal-breaker by any means.

I have no prob w/ stubble or a few days growth, it's the full beards that I don't like, especially when the guy has a particularly sexy face.

YES! This trend has been in play for years now, and I am wishing it will pass. Well-groomed guys with beards can be hot, but the hipster trend moved into plain ol’ lazy slob territory. Lots of guys sport neck hair which is just plain unkempt. Give me a clean-cut guy with a fresh shave ANY day. It’s become a novelty in the Bay Area to find a clean, shaved face - just as it is to find a guy without tattoos.

Personal taste varies of course, but - my wish is that the slobs start taking some pride and grooming with or without facial hair. Shape that mess!

Stubble is ok but not beard!

I'm much more a fan of "stubble" rather than heavier beards.....although, on a case-by-case basis I can sometimes find full beards appealing too....I mentioned that my own habit is to maintain a perpetual "5 o'clock shadow" look....many years ago I found a company in Italy that makes a razor that includes a setting that produces / maintains the exact look that achieves the exact result that I want....over the years I've stayed with that razor....replacing when necessary & also keeping 1 of them handy to use at each of our few "family" homes around the globe along with extras stashed away to be grabbed & packed if needed when embarking on other travels.....basically. my attraction is for men who yes, have a priority to take a shower at least once each day & yes to having it as a priority to change their underwear everyday but also for men who don't necessarily consider it a priority to spend part of each day devoting some of their time to face-shaving.....maintaining a "good" stubble look for myself requires some limited, quick attention usually once every 3 days.

I love beards as well (other than those homeless beards - they're gross) but I disagree with the above. Beards have gone in and out of style countless times over thousands of years of history. True that lately they have been increasing in popularity but, unlike tattoos and piercings, facial hair has never been considered radical or degenerate.

I, myself, have had a beard since my late 20's but never let it grow too long. If I do it starts to get itchy and look weird. I trim down it every 2 weeks or so.

I agree that beards have gone in and out of style but my perception is that before this recent resurgence of beards, the last few decades beards were mainly seen as unseemly and unkempt by the mainstream.

When I was working in a fast food diner many years ago (before beards were a trend again) I was asked by a manager to be clean shaven at work as it was more appealing for customers. I didn't even have a full beard back then.

I should say that I don't really go for the huge beards, even if they are well groomed. I like anything from stubble/five o' clock shadow to a thick, but still somewhat cropped, beard.

We may have hit peak beard,uk.blastingnews.com/opinion/2018/03/we-dont-appear-to-have-hit-peak-beard-yet-002439943.htmls://, but this trend of facial hair has been around for the last decade. It's gotten to the point that you are likely a millienial or younger if you are sporting facial hair and folder than 40 if you are clean shaven. Remember the "clone" look of the 70's. That was the last time facial hair was big. Then the 80's hit and the clean shaven, hairless chest was in. Look at videos from Falcon and Catalina from that era. A brief return of the goatee occurred in the 90's and a general more unkempt look with the rise of grunge signified a return of the hirsute look. It was solidified with the brief lumbersexual look. Then hipsters came. Now things are coming full circle where the much derided mustache is making a comeback with less comments of "porn stach", "hide your children" and "pedophile" being mentioned.

One needs to qualify that this is a purely Anglo - English phenomena. Facial hair never left the Islam world, Indian subcontinent and Latin America's men were proudly sporting chest hair for a while.

Clearly more men have beards than, say, 10 years ago. It suits some men, not others. Generally big bodybuilders always look ok with it (though I prefer moustaches, Bronson style), but when you're small like me it can dwarf your pint-sized body!

Kurt Cobain & the appeal of his look to me aside, I also once caught an on-camera interview of Paul McCartney where he declared that he hated shaving....it was a comment that struck a chord with me & which I agreed & identified with.....& instilled into my own lifestyle with the adaptation of the grunge look for myself in a lifelong way almost always ever since.....my habit of having a wardrobe nearly exclusively of high quality, subtle/soft (not bright) colored plain tee shirts was adopted long before Mark Zuckerberg’s tee shirt style moved into men’s fashion discussions.
